My PC computer is not detecting my HVX200 when connected with firewire.
There is no firewire drivers on the P2 CD rom that came in the package.
I've followed the yellow sheet instructions on connect sequence, but nothing happens.
I know my firewire cables and computer are ok, because Windows do detect my old VX Sony DV video camera.
Do I have a defective HVX?
Everything else is ok, except I haven't tested the USB 2, because I don't have the cable.

I need to elaborate:
I'm not using a P2 card, just regular DV. I've shot some DV footage, but I can't capture through firewire.
Help!

Did you turn on the Firewire Device option on your HVX?

bgundu:
Great you answeered!
Loved your distillery district footage, by the way.
I see "1394 control = both" in the "other functions" menu.
Is that what you mean by firewire device option?
I'm starting to panic.

No, the 1394 control doesn't matter to mount the cards. Mind you, I'm on a mac but this is how I do it.
Set the PC mode to "1394 Device"
Press the MCR button
Now hold the button for 2 seconds
Your computer should have two partitions (if you have two cards)

Bob:
In case you misunderstand, I don't have any p2 cards yet (they're being shipped) so I was testing the HVX in DV mode, shooting on MiniDV tape.
Without the P2 card I can't set the PC mode.
The computer doesn't see the HVX connection at all. I don't think my firewire is functioning at all.
My computer will see my ancient Sony DV camera fine.
I'm just making sure I'm not seniding the unit back if it's not defective. It's only been a week.

Sorry. I'm assuming you have switched the media switch from P2 to Tape? Other than that I don't know what else to suggest?
Good luck,
Bob

Bob:
Yeah... I switched to tape.
I think I have a defective unit.
Thanks for the help, nevertheless.
Try the camera through somebody else's system before you send it back ! Try it via a mac better still, I would be very surprised if your camera is defective.
