I'm no expert but here are a few tips to increase performance with Edius.
1. Close the audio window when not in use. When open, this window can slow playback or cause dropped frames.
2. If something is studdering on playback try holding down the shift key and hitting play. This will buffer the video before playing. In the lower left corner of the screen you'll see the numbers start to save frames before playing.
3. You can play just about any kind of video resolution or framerate from the timeline in Edius, but you'll get better RT performance is you match project settings to camera or graphic settings. If shooting a project 1440 x 1080 then choose that in project setup. Make sure all the graphics you import are also that resolution. Be precise.
There are too many variables to say how much performance you'll get from these tips, but its a start.
Happy cutting,
