Okay, I think I've decided to get a MAC vs a PC for HVX editing.

But I'm curious, in the 3-4 thousand dollar range (excluding monitor), which is the best mac to get?

I think I've narrowed it down to these two:

Apple PowerMac G5 2.5GHz Quad-Core

or

Two dual-core 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 processors

Now, maybe these two systems are one and the same. Maybe I'm a complete dumbass. But is a QUAD-CORE the same as TWO DUAL-CORE? (common sense says yes).

Which (MAC) system would you recommend?

Forgot something:

What about the new intel-based macs? Are these better for video? Or am I better off sticking with the above?

Get the quad if you can afford it!
The Pro apps such as FCP Studio are not ready for Intel based macs.
If you need to get a Mac now, get a a G5 based mac.
If you can wait about 10months get a Intel based mac and watch the pro apps run smoother and faster than they ever have on the G5s.

Quad Core means this: Two cores to every proccesor, there are two proccesors in the quad core G5. So you get 4 G5 2.5Ghz CPUs!

Well I have the 2.5 Quad - Core and I will tell you what running Final cut studio that thing sings. But there is one thing to think about. We will be getting the new Intel G5 released at NAB. Now it won’t probably ship until late July/aguast. So if you can wait that long I would wait. But if you can't, we couldn't then I would go with the Quad Core.
