Does anyone here use it?
Im thinking of buying it to make my website all fancy lookin and stuff, but want to know how hard it is to learn. I've heard comparisons to after effects.
Is it hard at all? could i learn with just the manual alone?
Thanks.

Learning Flash is not that difficult, but learing design IS!

Same as someone learning Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Anybody can learn the tools, but not everyone can use them well. :)

Have you ever done any design work before? You don't need Flash to make a site look cool. Sometimes it actually looks worse.

I would start with a basic site design first and then use flash to enhance it (if it needs it).

Good luck!

I use Flash. it is really easy (for me :D) of course you should read one book at least, but I would read 2 books. the animating part is very easy. but if you go into deep actionscripting, that will be hard. (I mean that I have already made traffic simulating program with it, and things like AI (learning program) or you can make those read-ing programs when you type the text in, and it reads it back) you can work with webcam data -pixel by pixel- in v8, so if you are good enough (and you have enough time) you can build a compositing program(it can handle alpha in v8 too), so it is just fun. :)

I stumbled onto a program called XTivity. It's pretty slick because it has almost all the functionality of Flash, but without any scripting at all.

These are words of wisdom. I would also suggest to learn HTML.

Before you learn flash, do you know CSS? If you don't, start there.

It is amazing what you can do with CSS.

Check this site out: www.csszengarden.com (and make sure you select different designs on the right). There is also a book they wrote that I highly recommend.

Yes, by all means get and learn about Flash. Then go and do FUN and interesting things.

You can learn about all sorts of other things too at the same time, CSS included. That's the great thing about learning!

I highly second CSS design. I just redid my entire site in CSS. Tables are dead!

PK Gillock/CMessineo are right. CSS is changing the world. But learn to design first. Flash is great, but only when used right. The tough stuff you gotta do with scripting, so it helps to have examples with downloadable code:

Also, usability is the answer!

I have been learning flash for the last week. I am getting it down and have worked with other design programes before but I don't think flash is the everything programe that allot of people think it is. You have to make it do what you want.
