View Full Version : Envision's 2k Video - Long & Uncut
Norm Sanders
03-22-2006, 10:31 PM
Well, I DID have to actually cut it, as I stinkin' rambled on for 18+ minutes with NO planning or preperation ... as such, it's still long at about 13 minutes, though only about 25mb.
THAT SAID, I HOPE I've got some helpful tidbits on how to establish relationships with some of the major studios, etc. at the end ... so for those who don't want to hear my mindless dribble for the first 10+ minutes, just skip to the end ... I wouldn't blame you.
Basically, this fullfills the requirement of what's suddenly become an unwritten law of people making a video of themselves at every thousand post mark. Since I missed the first mark, the length of this more than makes up for both ... in fact, it probably covers me for the next 20,000 posts.
It's not cute & clever, and is totally unscripted. So there are TONS of "um's" and "uh's", and me just pretty much lookin' like a sweaty frickin' idiot. And I'll warn you upfront, I missed a ton of shout outs ... wasn't even planned, just fell into few & went for it.
Without further ado .... www.eefilm.com/dvxuser/envision2k.wmv (http://www.eefilm.com/dvxuser/envision2k.wmv)
downloading now....Is anybody collecting these things? We need total coverage!
That freakin rocked dude! loved it. Totally unscripted, from the heart advice from a bro! tooo cool, thannks man

That was actually really informative! I know it wasn't planned, but there was a lot to get out of that sucker! I think the lesson learned though is: If you want a shoutout on these vids, you need to post in Briceman's discussion thread :-p
Thanks for the valuable info!

Mino, I think you're too gracious, but thanks all the same. Your a good guy.
Thanks, dj ... actually you & Mino, and MANY others are shout out worthy, for sure. Next time, I'll try to plan it well in advance and will likely have 50-100 names to read off of people I interact with often around here.
Of course, if I really go as planned as I'd like to, it would nearly be a short film in itself with the FX, etc.

Hahahaha, watching it now -
Jack Daniel Stanley - tourette's syndrome...hahahahahaha
nice!
Say What you will my friend, I liked the darned thing, you came across as a person whos been in the gears of the machine more than some, and who was helping to lay a trail through the muck...I Liked it!
Norm Sanders
03-22-2006, 11:11 PM
Oh, and there is a LOT of muck out there, Mino. I like to help ... I'm a giver, it's what I do. :cheesy:
Luis, glad you got a laugh out of it ... hope ol' Jack boy does as well.

03-22-2006, 11:12 PM
Ha! That was great! You have a very dynamic onscreen presence and an announcer's voice to boot. You should replace Ryan Seacrest. :cheesy:
Your advice on how to approach studios with scripts was great. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Congrats on the big 2K. Sticking with it till the end was definitely a good idea. Thanks for the tips man!

Still watching it now... I like the way you broke down the way you've set up the relationships you have. Thanks for the insights. That's stuff we don't hear all the time.
EDITED TO ADD:
Just ended - I have to say, very inspiring Envision - nice job.
Thanks for taking the time to put that up.
The wookie approves...I rest my case!

Oh my... downloading now Norm... this is probably gunna be the best birthday present ever! :)
What? No shout out? You can go to hell! (Just kiddin' bud.)
"This video sucks." BWAHAHAHA That was awesome.
Very cool to meet you (your a very pretty man.) What you had to say was very heartfelt, inspirational and true. And for that I whole heartedly thank you for that.
Also, after staring at the screen for so long, the colors started to blur together, and it looked like the you were a football player, with huge sholder pads.
(your a very pretty man.)

Ok, first let me say thanks for the double shout out!!
Second, don't ever make another comment about how long winded my e-mails are
Third, I have archived this video and ... Yes, it will come back to haunt you someday
Seriously though, good job. It's always great to put a name and a face together, especially as much as we've communicated. The information was great, very useful...but just so you know, I intend to give you my scripts and let you do all that legwork for me . . . hey, your experienced, why should I waste my time doing what you already figured out :)
Great vid!!
Peace,
Larry
P.S. Tell TC to stuff it...he doesn't deserve a shout out the way he always harrasses me about that stupid boat anchor. I never promised to make his computer work, just that I would put it together

Thanks for the shout though!

What? No shout out? You can go to hell! (Just kiddin' bud.)
LOL!!! That had me rollin' TC! I'm still laughing as I'm typing this out. You're right, I suck. TC SO could have worked in as a turret's outburst. I just wasn't thinking ... most people with turrets, don't really PLAN what they're going to burst out with ....
Oh, and if you wanted to be GUARANTEED to get a shout out, then you should have had your user name be any of the following:
#TC
--- TC ---
----TC----
Just a thought. I promise, on the next video, I'll plan it all out & you and MANY MANY more will get honest heart felt thank you's.
EDIT: Oh yes, and glad everyone's actually liking this ... though everyone seems to like ANY video a fellow DVXuser puts up. :) Part of me questions if I should have given my secrets out that I had to learn the hard way on getting in with the studios, since I'll have that much more competition in the coming months from it. BUT, you've still got to be a good, smooth sales person on the phone ... and let me tell you, I can sell snow to the eskimos. :) Or so I've been told ... not really sure if that's a compliment or a "car salesman" slam.

Thanks for the shout out! Kind of ... Anyway, nice vid, and yeah, it was long, but it has it's moments.
"If you don't ask the answers no." Now where have I hear that before ..... :)
Keep it up!
EDIT: And yes, as Larry R said, this will come back to haunt you ..... hehehehehe ...

Yeah, that video had to be REALLY boring & long to Ryan, especially since he sees my mug at least once a week or more, and we talk nearly daily now.

Envision, the video rocked. Nice work. I like that you got on DVXuser in the vid. Good think. And thank you for the tip on the studio relations. But I will say this. I do look forward to the extended cut on the dvd. The video kind of left me wanting more.
Norm Sanders
03-23-2006, 12:49 AM
EXTENDED CUT! LOL! Yes, buy it now, folks and you too can have Norm rambling on for not 10, not 20, but a FULL 90 minutes on your TV Screen!
Act now, and we'll throw in 10 of Briceman's videos that have been uploaded in the last two days!

Thanks John. I actually wondered if the batter would work, since I'd not used it before ... just unpacked it with the rest of the DVX, popped the battery in 1+ year ago, and tried it for the first time.
Darn little thing actually came out handy. :)
I don't think I've ever used the remote either. LOL.
...now that I think about it, I don't even know which case it's in.

Oh, the remote is SO much fun.
Especially when you have a 2nd Panny set up to do the BTS stuff...and when you start the DVX, the BTS stops...and vice versa. Which is why there is no BTS stuff of the actual filming of the last short...just the lead-up.

Wow, yeah I'd have to have skipped over that guys name. I wonder how long it would actually take to just read through all 15K member's names (or however many there are now).
Then, forget people poking jabs at me for MISSING their names, you'd have people like 235 Studios getting on me for not PRONOUNCING them right. :)

Envison, you do realize you've started a stampede, everyone will be camping out on execs lawns, I can hear Briceman looking for his one man tent now! Great vid, nice to see you try a few alternative routes. I always aim high, it's the only way baby!

LOL!!! I have got to share that one with my wife. I've heard a lot of things said about me, both good & bad as I've gone through life, but that one takes the cake. Good stuff, Aram, thanks! :) .... I think. Anyway, on a similar note, I've been tempted to have my teeth grinded before ... my canines are pretty pronounced, and very sharp ... you have no idea how many times I've punctured a lip or tongue when chewing, etc. Maybe if I get braces someday, I'll get that whole mouth/zipper thing worked out. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
gOldenbOy, Hank, my buddy ... I'm SO sorry! Again, shout-outs weren't really planned, and this whole thing's unscripted. For those of you wondering, Hank REALLY deserved a shout out, as he took his own time to put together this killer FLASH banner for our duplication company ...
www.playitagainprod.com (http://www.playitagainprod.com)
Shout-Out to Hank, aka gOldenbOy!
Timur, I DID butcher your name. Sorry 'bout that. At least you always know when someones a telemarketer and they ask if you're home. :kali:
jpbankesmercer, yep ... it's like archery. You've got to aim high, and the farther out your goal is, the higher you have to aim as the arrow WILL come down along the way. That would make sense to some confusious guy, so hopefully it does to some of you as well. I'm all about the analogies.

Hey there! Loved the Video.
I used to live in Vancouver Washington for 21 years before I moved to California and worked in FIlm and Video for 5 years and then moved back here to Portland Oregon. I have hiked Beacon Rock many times! Great place.
I acutlay work full time as a CPhT at a large Pharmacy and run my Production Studio part time for now.
My older Brother works in LA and has done tons of shows like Monster Garage, Discorvery, Sunday Morning Shoot out, etc. I have worked mostly with Music Videos, Tv comercials, and corprate videos. I have even gotten to do some stung work and acting from time to time. But I'm a Camera operator and mostly Editor by nature and trade.
Well, that's my info.
Keep in touch!
490 Studios or BergVision Studios. Not sure yet. May change the name.
