For those who didn't already know, Google acquired @Last Sketchup, a great 3D app for illustrations and previs work.

But the best thing is, now this program is free. So go check it out. I know I'll be using it for my previs work!

EDIT:

Sorry guys/gals/in betweens... It is just a demo. I jumped on a link from Pixelsurgeon a little to quickly without checking it out more thoroughly.

My apologies.

All you gotta do is click on the download now button. No prompts for cash. I just DL'd it and installed it myself.

This is google we're talking about. I'm sure offering Sketchup for free somehow fits into their plans for World Domination ;)

the "TRY OUT" is free, not the actual program. The free version is designed to see if the program is "right" for you. besides the try out is only good for 480 min (8 hours). The actual program looks to be around 500 bucks, which is most likely a good deal if you need this type of program. If your going to use it for any paying gigs you should share the wealth and purchase the program. Otherwise they will not be able to continue developement or programming new features into the product, thus it will die and become obsolete.

Yeah you guys are right. I just opened it. Never mind. Sorry about that. There was a link on Pixelsurgeon saying it was free. I was misled too.

Once again. Sorry about that.

no need to be sorry, companies that give away free software dont tend to stay in buisness long anyways. I would rather pay for something and know its supported and has life to it.

Now i feel like a dork. I'm usually better about checking stuff out first. Everyone feel free to club me like a baby harp seal.

I agree. I was wondering how they were gonna manage such a feat. But I was blinding my my desire to use this slick little app. I was transformed from Mojotrancer to Jojo the Dog Boy and was sucked in.

Waterworld? Shame on you, John.

But then again I actually bought The Postman (from the bargain rack).

This article, published yesterday, seems to think its free too.

[edit] they do have a free version now... toned down, but free nonetheless:

I think MojoTrancer just jumped the gun a little in his original post. Before Google bought them, they always offered an 8 hour evaluation version. But, when Google bought them, you know they had to give something for free.

It didn't take long, and now they have a free version. I've been wanting to use this app for a long time, and the free version is perfect for me (though the animatable camera of the pay-version would be nice for previz).

the exporter works with both free and pro version of SketchUP.

Check in the downloads app for Kerkythea

Too bad Sketchup can't dimension angles and arcs/circles.
