View Full Version : Exporting HD - 2 Questions

I just finished cutting my first HD film shot with the HVX (it is a 5 minute short).

It was all shot 720p and the final export res should be 1280 x 720.

It will be playing in a festival in April and they asked me to send it to them uncompressed.

First question: Is that even possible? Is there a format it can be saved in that is uncompressed? If so what is it?

Second question: Assuming it has to be compressed, what is the best compression type to use to keep the quality as high as possible? Space is not an issue.

Thanks,

Chris

I guess you can export it as Uncompressed HD Video 10 bit 4:2:2. This is what I use for SD video, except obviously I used standard video 10 bit 4:2:2. The Animation codec is really good as well. I'm not quite sure how well these handle HD though. Try it and see.

My goal is to save it to a DVD-R as a QuickTime movie with as little compression as possible.

My first attemp was saving it as a QT7 file using the new codec (H.264), but I am still seeing a lot of compression artifacts. :(

I would try uncompressed or animation codecs. Problem is that they take up a lot of space, so you would have to make sure they are under 4.7 gb's.

Thanks for the advice.

I tried the uncompressed Codecs and they look great, but they are huge.

I'm going to have to play around and test some more options.

Try Photo-JPEG at 95%, about the same as Animation codec.
About 1 gig per minute. You might be
able to squeeze 5 min on a DVD-R.
Do they need this to put in their computer to
put it to tape, or are they re-compressing to
WMV HD or H264 for computer playback??
