Apple is offering an Incredible updrade to the Universal version of Final Cut SUITE that runs on BOTH Intel and Power PC based Macs. You dont't have to currently own the suite to upgrade to it. I only have FCP 4.5 and am getting the whole Suite for $199. My guess is that future upgrades to the Suite will only be for the Universal version. Nothing to lose, everything to gain on this one.

The upgrade prices are too good to pass up.

Go to www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/

it is a good deal but if you don't have FCP currently or any of the bundled software it comes with then I think you will have to shell out almost $1300 bucks for the suite.

some places still have soundtrack pro or motion 2 and you can upgrade off of that.

Does same deal apply to FCP academic?

I've looked around a little bit on ebay, and for about US$150 - 200, you can get one of the qualifying applications. Add on another $199 and at most it's $399 for the suite. Now that's an amazing deal!

Read the fine print on the upgrade form that you download. Under TERMS and CONDITIONS it states that academic versions are accepted in certain instances.

so...if I send in my standalone Soundtrack Pro install DVD I will get a full universal version of FCP Studio, with all the software? Motion, DVD Studio 4, etc.? That's awesome!

Hoping this happens soon. I sent my install disc in about 3 weeks ago. The site says March 2006 ship date and when I check the site for updates, it says mine is on Backorder. Hope that doesn't mean it won't take longer to come in. Has anyone recieved their copy yet? I can't wait! :badputer:

I'm going to wait until NAB where we will hopefully hear about FCStudio 6 and I hope that get's the same crossgrade treatment.

I doubt it. This CrossGrade is most-likey to entice current users to get the latest and greatest Mac or as to not be discouraged, making us think Apple cares about us older FCP users. For MAJOR upgrades like the FCP 6 and FCP Extreme that are being rumored, those usually don't come that cheap. We can hope though.

I called Apple yesterday, as I am doing the Soundtrack Upgrade and mine still says backordered. They said that they don't have an exact date (or are simply lying) but it will deffiantly ship this month. By the tone of his voice, he seems to have heard this alot. Apple is probably telling these people just to tell anyone who calls that it will ship this month and nothing else. Apple is a very secret company, not that I blame them.

I love my Mac and I'm a loyal Apple fan, but I have to say the one thing that shits me is the way they treat their customers in countries like Australia and New Zealand. We never get any of these sorts of deals, and we pay nearly double the amount for the equipment in the first place. Would it really be so hard to at least offer us the same products?

Oh my god! I can't believe my post was censored!! Is poo poo really less offensive than that other word I used?

Fritz, you'll be happy to know that when your post is previewed in email, your wording is not edited at all.

Academic upgrade to non-academic does NOT work -- tried it, guys. Ended up being a major hassle -- (I had Academic 4.5 and tried to get away with the upgrade to 5 after Apple said it should work, and it was a total no-go)

Since Apple did not do anything today reguarding the Universal Version, it will probably be Monday unless Apple pushes it till Friday which is the last day of the month...we shall see.
