I know you can paste into an aplpha channel for a layer, but I can't figre out how to paste into a layer mask. I've been trying since version 4.
Maybe it can't be done, but it would really be helpfull.

Paste into is apple+shift+v but that is into a selection. Fortunately you can turn a layer mask into a selection by apple clicking it. What is it you are trying to paste?? and into what maybe I can be more specific or have a differant work around.

Try this
Copy ( what you want to paste)
Click ( the layer mask layer )
push "q" (Quick mask mode)
paste (regular not paste into)
"q" (go out of quickmask mode)

Mostly, I'm just trying to paste into a layer mask, either from another layer mask or from a main layer. So far, it cant be done.
Also, I'll be damned if I can figure out how to paste something into an existing layer, main, mask or otherwise, without creating an extra layer of any kind.

You could paste then merge down.

Yeah, but I am wanting to keep Layer Masks and Layer Styles intact, and they are lost when merged.
Shoulda been more specific.
Thanks

Did a google and came up with this. Figured I'd help you out if I could since you've been great with the tutorials.
Not sure if this is what you're looking for.

Thanks. The firelily solution was close, but still involves the Channel's Pallet.
Damn close though.

Hey, don't forget, most of us use an IBM CLONE! Apple's are good for eating. Don't assume some one is using an APPLE or a Peach.
APPLE + LAME + SHIFT + TOY+CNTRL, HOLD SHIFT,A+ APPLE APPLE + + + +
Hey! I pasted something!! Thanks Apple!

OOps-- came late to this thread, but pasting into a layer mask is simple... you have to click on the "eye" for the layer mask in the channels palette to make it visible (the layer mask will only show up in the channels palette when that layer is active). You'll see the layer as a red (or whatever color is set in prefs) overlay... just hit "paste" and you'll see the effect on screen. Hope that helps--MC (Video newbie, photoshop god)
