I currently have a PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25 with a very fast Video card ATI 9800 128MB
2 Gigs of RAM.
I'm running FCP 4.5HD editing all SD material. This system is humming quite nicely.
Handling After Effects, Photoshop, Live Type, SoundTrack Pro comfortably.
Motion? well... I don't use it... I'm not sold on it's performance even with the G5's.
I was wondering if I upgraded to FCP5 would there be a performance hit or a performance improvement with the newer version? Is FCP5 more taxing or is it faster (rendering and responsiveness) than FCP4.5? - on a system similar to mine
Thanks for the replys.

I'm using a PowerBook G4 with just the single 1.67 Ghz processor and didn't notice any difference when I went from 4.5 to 5.

I cut with a dual 1ghz, FCP5, it seems about the same performance wise as 4 was. Same RAM as you, lesser of a video card. I too stay away from motion. But aside from a few HD things I have done (yes it was taxing), SD still works pretty well. I needed 5 for the the multi camera option.
