I'm highly considering buying an Optosigma 50mm groundglass, as opposed to the Nikon D Screen. I have heard the D screen is a bit soft, that is why.

How many of you have bought and used an optosigma screen and liked it?

If I get the 50mm 1500 grit, would I just replace it with the filter inside of a 50mm ring?

And one last question, my adapter is VERY much like the home depot 35. . would using an opto sigma be best for if I wanted to make a short film with this adapter?

Thanks!

i just finished my adapter with an optosigma 1500grit 50mm. i just fixed it inside the tube with gaff tape. you have a good amount of edge you can cover since you will be zooming into the center of the glass.

here's footage of mine.

although I havent used one, I havent heard (nor seen footage) of the Optosigma glass being any sharper than the D screen.

But of course the D screen is almost impossible to find anymore, which may be a better reason.

was the opto sigma very soft for you? and what camera did you use with your adapter. btw, on your footage, every rack focus seems to shake the camera.

seemed as sharp as i expected based on other people's home made adpter footage i've seen. cam is dvx100a 24pa. cam shake is due to my crappy skills and lack of rails and/or follow focus. i'm sure it will improve but this was the first use ever.... after being so used to the big smooth dvx ring, reaching an extra 6 inches and twisting a ring half the size takes some getting used to...

i was going to go with the d screen but after 2 weeks of searching i gave up. optosigma will work fine for me until someone comes up with a grainless adapter for $200. then i'll just buy one.
