wow. i thought it was very well done. amazing animation and very creative..
Great work! I especially love the box floor animation and explosion technique on the model.
cool. how did you make the very first (body upbuilding) and the last (colouring) effects?

Impressive. What software are you using to make this?

Not only answers, but is there any way of getting a downloadable file?
This computer is TERRILBY slow, and I cant view it.

Yeah, i have been looking for a tutorial on the effect you have with the floor tiles breaking up. Im guessing that you have them in an array and use them as hard body objects and the collision objects for the falling body which makes it do that. Im looking to do a sidewalk breaking apart in that exact same way.
Yeah, the flash file is taking forever to load and I havent watched it all yet.
You should have a downloadable linke also.
You gave me some ideas to try though until you give us answers.

The floor breaking up was definatly dynamics, but it also moved as if being driven by a diplacement map. Maybe there was a layer underneath that was set to be a collsion object and when the displacement map worked it, it affected the floor pieces, since sectioned behaved individually.

Lemme know if you find that tutorial. The tiles behave like a fluid sim to a degree.

Yeah i have been searching for anything like this. That idea of the effector underneath sounds like a good idea. Im wondering if a wind dynamic was used to get that effect also.

you call yourself a 3d newbie? wtf? it was almost a perfect biped model, i couldnt really judge the rigging, but i could tell it was rigged. and blend shapes with the facial smile? thats def no amatuer move. the compositing and lighting was nothing short of pro quality. your modeling is supurb so this really makes me question yourself as a 3d newb. i've been in 3d for almost 2 years now and you're leagues above me. not a noob.
i'm pretty sure the exploding tile floor was done with dynamics. and i'm wondering how you did the extrusion of the biped at the begining?

Animate a Black & White gradient/file texture up the length of the body set as the transparancy alpha. Polys doulbe sided.

The name is below the movie, it's in French (I think) though.

I cannot understand this. could you detail it a bit more?

Sure. In addition to your surface attributes (Luminosity, Diffuse, Spec, Reflec, ect) you can add textures to each. When you add a texture to the Diffuse, you get a normal texutred object. When you add a texture to attributes like Specular, Reflection, Transparancy, you do so to "break up" those mattes, allowing for more realistic looking results. Scratches, smudges, dents, all those kinds of imperfections needed to got the look you need can be easily done with high contrast image maps, just like you would use for a bump map or displacement map. They act as an alpha channel for each attribute. Animating those textures when they are on the model, causes the attribute they are applied to to be animated as well.
Here is a simple box render:
http://www.paramm.com/box.jpg
Here is the texture to be used:
http://www.paramm.com/circle.jpg
When applied to the Diffuse (with a cubic projection) all sides the same Surface Name, the result is this:
http://www.paramm.com/boxdif.jpg
Pretty straightforward. Take the texture off and apply reflection to the whole thing and you get this:
http://www.paramm.com/boxref.jpg
Apply the same image wiith cubic projection again to the reflection and you get this:
http://www.paramm.com/boxrefal.jpg
It's breaking up the reflection, based on white and black.
Apply it to the transparancy:
http://www.paramm.com/boxtran.jpg
you get that. Make the polys double sided:
http://www.paramm.com/boxtrands.jpg
You get that.
Now imagine animating the texture alond the box. I't s pretty straightforward stuff.

Heres a test in the direction i want to go. I need to still put in another object to keep the blocks from falling into space and I wouldnt have them fly up so high to give the sense they are really heavy. Adding some slomo will help with that too.

Cool clip. Are you just using gravity on that or is there an invisible passive object?

waoo, thanx guys! encouraging comments!
sorry to answer so late .....
the music is from ULYSSE, a french band (you can find their music on the itunes music store).
the explosion was made using a simple explosion plugin, no gravity, and slowmo.
for the body construction at the beginning i used a cube travelling from one point to another and subtracted from the body. but i like your texture tip, rapier!
i used a mac, dual g5 1.8ghz .... and a lot of coke to wait for the rendering (i rendered it in hd 1280x720) and to find how things work in 3d softwares.

You mean you Booleaned the body sections you wanted to see? Ouch! Man, with that level of detail and obvious subpatching, I dont even wanna know what you poly count was to allow boolean.
Great idea on how to do it.
here is my little 3D animation (flash 8)

Rapier- I used a torus object to start the reaction from underneath to look like a shock wave. It starts really small and transforms to the size where the hole ends. Its a hard body object and the floor is the collision object. in the final I would have a city sidewalk textured object cut up into more realistic chunks with some particle dust stuff and do the same thing. I think it looks pretty much like a shockwave and probably would need some camera shake to help sell the shot.

i feel violated yet strangely drawn in. It feels like a Aphex Twins video in the making. Twisted babies always make me cringe with glee.
Well if your a noob then I'm not even born yet! that was some very cool work. You have some real skills there ny friend.
