Cropping video transitions?

I recently shot keeping in mind that i wanted the final aspect ratio to be 2:1. However, when i throw in, say, a dip to color, the whole screen goes that color. Is there anyway you can crop video transitions?

Here's the workflow you should probably use...

Edit in native aspect with all transitions...

Then, nest the sequence and apply the 2:1 ratio matte.

It's the length vs. width of the frame. So you have all your basics 1.33:1 (TV), 16:9, 1.85:1, and 2.35:1. I chose 2:1 becasue i wanted something a little wider than 1.85:1, but didn't feel that it needed to be as wide as 2.35:1, since it's digital.
