An awesome inventor & engineer, QUYEN LE, has succusessfully manufactured an adapter for basically any DV camera you want. It is called the LETUS35 adapter availbale now. Check it out at www.adapterplace.com for info on his LETUS35 adapter.
Currently there is only one company that makes an adapter that mounts directly to the body of the Canon XL series of camcorders without the cumbersome need of using the long stock lens as a relay. They are the mighty P+S Mini35 adapter sold through ZGC. This is the mother of all camera adapters and is commonly considered the best camera adapter ever made.
Well, QUYEN LE has taken the plunge to create an all new adapter that will also fit directly to the camera body of the Canon! The great news is that this new adapter from Adapter Place is so small and compact, it DOES NOT REQUIRE RODS to be upheld on your Canon Camera! After adding your 35mm SLR lens of choice to the front of it, you simply mount the entire device on your camera as if it was the stock lens. It is called the LETUS35XL adapter and is scheduled for release in the next 30-45 days. That's the great news....but the AWESOME NEWS is that this adapter will cost only about $800 bucks TOTAL!!
So keep a lookout at www.adapterplace.com for the latest and greatest 35mm lens adaspter for the Canon XL series cameras.

Shannon,
Someone just pointed me in this direction a few days ago
I am totally excited to have a 35mm adapter & relay lens for direct mounting on the H1.
Thanks QUYEN LE !
also Thanks, Shannon. All your posts helped me to finally choose the Canon, after testing all cameras, for my specific needs
& This is one of the added bonuses
( Next will be this plus SDI out to a Kona card in a G5 + Raid for uncompressed 35mm HD ):Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Shannon - I replied to your post at Cinematography.com. But I'll respond here too.
I wonder if their adapter will only work with SLR lenses?

How does this compare (image-wise) to the Red Rock M2? It sounds fantastic.

Flatworld -
Thats the golden question -
One would assume that if you use a relay there will be less light loss
Check the site under Letus 35 at the bottom of the page, there are some videos.
Compressed, SD video - but they look good.

The videos look great. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I just made up my mind to go with the H1 as well (I own a DVX100a). It wasn't an easy decision, but it seemed to suit my needs best.

Also price is $850, not $800 and likely I will have it ready in 2 weeks.
I will post more info of this adapter later, thanks.

I have tested the adapter with XL1. I also have some pictures of the adapter on the XL1 and to compare to the XL1 16x lens' dimensions. Below are the links.

That's great news Shane. Thanks for trailblazing. If it looks good, I will be buying one for my XLH1 as well. Looking forward to your results.

Can't wait to see the results Shane. If it looks great well there's another damn upgrade to the camera I will simply have to get. Please do share what you can as soon as you are able.

No problem B! I'm glad you picked the camera that works best for YOU...not for Shannon. I'm glad you understood that that's what is important.
I wanted to give Quyen props for his adapter and let people know about it. I've always been nice and try to help whenever and wherever I can. I still seem to get many emails from people digging up my old posts reading my words, then emailing me questions and asking for advice and whatnot. I try to help them via email as much as I can and give them the skinny as best I know how when it comes to these camcorders. I even found myself answering LETUSXL adapter questions when I don't even own one. *smile* As you have noticed, I walk lightly around the discussion forums on the internet these days. It seems I tend to get a few guys panties in a bunch by the things I say and who I say them to, if you catch my drift. The "tell it like it is" method of man-to-man talking I was taught as a kid doesn't seem to work in 2006 with some of these 'modern-day males' I suppose.
Anyhow, congrats on your camera. It's a professional model, so I hope you are actually using it professionally and not just for bragging rights and test charts. *smile*

Hello Shane,
That's great to hear! I've seen the two quick test samples listed at dvinfo. I believe they were shot with the XL1, so it will be good to see some XL2 footage.

The last part of this clip looked very grainy... is this due to compression?
And, is this a flip verson or is the price higher (compared to the regular letus...) because of the modification for direct mounting?

Will it be good for the H1 is the question? I hope so, there is no soft DV to hide any anomalies within the system. The clip from the XL looks really nice.
Looks like very good machine work too! Can't wait to see more!

Hello Spartacus,
Check out posts 1 and 5 at dvinfo.net. for the "flip" info.
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=62445
Quyen mentioned in posts 69 and 71 that the footage was shot in low light, quick grab kind of conditions, so maybe that relates to your other question.
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=62445&page=5
Quyen would be able to give a more definitive answer, so maybe he will post when he reads your post.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Brian,
is there anyone using the letus around here and has some production footage to show? So far everyone seems to favor the M2...
I never realised that no other of the p+s alternatives directly attaches to the XL2!
For me this seemed so obvious!
Is this relay lens that hard to produce, or why donīt the others offer this option?

The M2 footage, from many different SD/HD cameras, looks incredible. The gallery section of the RedRock website is full of great samples. Even the RedRock "Sandbox" test footage looks good. Honestly, if there were a RedRock XL relay version of the M2, I would have placed an order already.
The form factor of the Letus35XL is a great selling point for it. This Letus version seems to be much improved over the earlier version. From reading Quyen's posts, he seems to be very responsive to his customers.
There has been some posts about the Cinemek people creating an XL relay version, but that will likely be a long time in the future, since a production model of their G35 hasn't been released yet.
