I took the HD100 out for testing to get more familar on the way the HD100 reacts to light and its colorimitry. For a lot of the shots it was full telephoto 16x. Not bad at all for the Fujinon, considering that it's worst case.. Contrary to what is said about the lens, it performs very good for the price...
There are a couple of XLH1 experimental color tests and night clips too in the XLH1 folder..
Anyways these are just basic no thrills tests done in Laguna Beach,CA and NewportBeach/Corona Del Mar,CA.

Hey, Pappas--
What are these shot at? 24p or what? I don't know ANYTHING about the JVC HD100... but damned if EVERY clip I've seen isn't freaking awesome.
I did notice the CA... but that pales in comparison to the amount of noise I've seen in other clips from other cameras.

Were these done using the default settings or did you make any scene file changes?

To much red in some of the skin tones for my taste. I know Pappas likes to get as much color to tape as possible and back it down in post so that is probably the reason.

Freaky. I swear, even in sunlight, some shots look like 16mm reversal film.
I like the look. I like the saturated colors! Wow!
Factory settings? Cine Wide?

Michael, as I said before, you are one of the most valuable posters around here. A real filmic-footage poster. Not just a bla bla bla HD theoretical poster. I did my guess and I'm proud that I wasn't wrong when I did it, fortunately. Congrats! KUDOS from Europe, shooter!
EDIT -- BTW, XL-H1@1080/24F or HD100@720/24p to 35mm film-out@big_screen -- what's your bet(ter)/option?
I can't get your page up Michael. Firefox tries to "Save to disk" saying it is a "binary file"
Any ideas? I am on a Mac.

Both Firefox and Safari are doing that to me too... since it's a .Mac page it's really weird.

I had this problem also in Firefox. In Safari, I just click on the download link and it goes to the desktop.

Thanks so much for sharing. I'm not camera savvy at all, but I really like the image that this camera puts out. it's REALLY clean.

These were shot at 24P- The JVC is an awesome camera. Despite what people say about the lens, it's not a bad lens.

I like this lens too.
Sure it has CA issues when wide open at the tele end, but it produces a sharp image with little distortion.
I wish I could afford the 13X.
Hopefully in the near future we will have a lot more options available.

Hi! Neopics
Sorry for getting back to you guys so late, it's been busy!
Color sat +1 to +2.
master ped -1 to -2.
Detail was -2 to -7.
Cine gamma yes and no on certain shots.
80A series filters in different strength.
Warming filters- Coral filters- Some times a PL-CIR.
Low-con if needed. I would balance this effect out with ped or blacks crush feature.
I also use my aperture to alter light values, making the scene slight underexpose to generate darker tones or the reverse.
I would alter the kelvin in camera sometimes!
I applied this exact same principal to the XLH1 and HD100 footage I filmed. However as I do with film or High-end it is never one setting that works for every scene. Or combination of filters. I wish one setting did it all.

Thanks Emanuel!
Well since I saw the HVX200 film-out and thought it was awesome looking. The HD100 has more res technically, so film-out from the JVC should not be an issue or the Canon which had been proven last month. All three are good cameras that you can't go wrong with. I wish I could get a HVX200 for two weeks. I know I can get beautiful shots with that as well.

Stephen -- LOL!
A Quote of mine from my web site...
"" I don't like to have middle of the road images. Take a look Bob Richardson's work with Oliver Stone or what the two Scott's do with their films. Look it what Sigel did with Three Kings or what Fincher does as well. From Carrivagio to Sergant they have played a major role at how I feel light and color needs to be for me. Modern century paintings from Rockwell to Odd Nerdrum play a role too! Very saturated to black and white, extreme color shifts and values is the way I have been doing it forever. I don't mind watching middle tone work from others artists, however I can't seem to stay level for myself. If I did, I would be completely dissatisfied and bored with my work. I like the extremities. I'm an extremist in nature so it carries over to my cinematography and everything else. ""
