Red Camera

Do the people from this project have an estimate date of release? or a prototype picture of the cam itself?

I think the reason why people keep calling Red a hoax or a scamm its because there are only words to view on there site. They should at least post something more. And half of the red site is not even finished.

Search this forum, the RED will be announced and shown (non-working-prototype) at NAB 2006 (April). The website is going to be redesigned.

I haven't heard the hoax or scam terms for months now after all that has been written. You need to come to NAB if you believe that to be true. Our time is being spent building a camera right now... not marketing it. When we finish the camera as expected, it won't need much marketing help. But we are in the process of building a website that will also be done at the time of NAB.

Jim, I can't wait to see your progress! Do you have even a projected time frame for camera availability?

The target is end of the year for first production run. It may be humble at that point, but one year from pulling the trigger to 1st production is not bad.

Will this cam be priced, good enough so people can afford it?. Example: same price as a DVX100B or Canon XL2?.

Oh man, I hope that wasn't too annoying Mr. Jannard. I, as an H1 owner, (which many find too expensive) do not expect miraculous pricing. I am, however, hopeful that it will be modular and somewhat attainable for lower resolution needs.

Please search. I normally don't bug people about this but even within this thread Jim said he wouldn't announce price until NAB. The questions you asked in your first post were asked dozens of times before, too.

The answer is no, though. Jim explicitly stated that a $4,000 price point is not remotely reasonable. He did say it will be under $200,000, though. But that's all we know. $10,000-$50,000 seems to be the current guess, and since it's "modular" both ends of the spectrum could be right...

Well i am not asking for the exact price. exmaple: when the canon XL2 came out they has a estimate price. I just wanna know at what price it will go, in the range of 4,000 or over 6,000. What do DVX users think its a reasonable price?

Again: search.

Also, Jim has given a price range:

Somewhere between $4,000 and $200,000. He's refused to say any more.

Yeah Im hopping its gonna be under 50k. $200,000 is a few too many extra quarters that my asshtray doesnt have.

I agree, if this cam is very high priced, not many commun inspiring film makers are going to be able to afford this cam. Only probably studios with high budgets. Not many young people have 50 k laying around. or have a wait to get it, pople will stick to the DVX100's because they are affordable.
