So I just finished production on a short film, about 3 weeks ago. Everything went great and we got all the shots with the actors that we needed. So far so good, I have kept the actors up to date on the progress of the editing, but all of a sudden one of my actors seems to have dissapeared. He was the lead character, but now his phone is discconnected and he hasn't replied to my emails. I have some ADR for a scene that was impossible get audio on, and now what do I do? This is a really important scene, and if I can't find the actor to do the ADR, I don't know what I'm gonna do. I had to wait until I was finished with a a rough cut of the editing, so I knew all of the audio that I had to get, and the funny thing is, I figured this out now, becasue I am trying to get his address to send him his check. WTF, who just dissapears without even getting paid.
So I don't know if this is a question, or just a rant, but I'm freaking out right now, I've got too much invested in this to have this one thing ruin the whole film. Do I dare find another actor to do his voice for those scenes? I think that would be almost impossible. AHHHHHHHHH, what do I do. :(

Did you get the actor through an agency? Were the other actors his friends?

Contact anyone that might know him, to see what happened to him. Google his name too to see if there is any information about it.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I've been known to track people down where they work, who the socialize with, or even through family members if need be. I know it sounds crazy, but I just want to finish what was started, and I've had a couple of instances where phones get disconnected or people get pissed for one reason or another.

That being said, I'm sorry to hear about that, but can't wait to see the finished project. You know I'm a huge fan of your work. How about a little tease or taste of this current project?

I guess if absolute worse came to absolute worse, you could get someone else to ADR ALL his lines, that way at least the voice stays consistant. I'm sure that's not what you want to hear. It's not what I'd want to hear. Bummer. :(

that reminds me of a short I was doing a couple years back where right in the middle of filmming I run into my lead actor at a party and he had just shaved his friggin head. I was like What the hell.... and then he let me know that he was moving out of town the next week. ( Murphy's Law all the way )

Well, thanks for the feedback. I'm sure I'll be able to figure something out. I didn't find him through and agency, it was actually a craigs list ad. He is a great actor, and I think if worse comes to worse we can work around it, it is really just one scene that I am not happy with the audio, but it is still passable. Hopefully he contacts me in the next couple of days, becasue I really need to figure out what I am going to do. But thanks for sharing your stories as well, Nick, that's about the worst thing an actor could do to you, I don't know what I would have done in that situation.

I should have a teaser going in the next 2-3 weeks. I am still working with the music director, so I won't have much until the music is at a passable stage.

Your situation reads like one of those magazine adds for SAG actors....

Worst case scenario you do some voice casting and fill him in with someone else and a bunch of software finesse. I think you could do it. It might actually be a fun project if you could remove the stress factor.

I hope it works out.

Post an ad for him in missed connections on CL. No craiglister can resist the missed connections.
