I got a gig cleaning up a movie cut in IMOVIE. is there a simple way to transport the edit to FCP?

I used imovie ages ago but don't remember shit.

Please help.

Try opening the iMovie project file in FCP. That should work, but sometimes it has problems.

Right click in the iMovie project > Show Package Contents > Media > Drag the clip/clips you want and drop it/them in FCP's browser.

Hmm,
is it normal that FCP has to render every .dv clip?
Can this be fixed in settings?
I have around three hours of footage - I rather edit in iMovie than rerender everything...!

If you're being asked to render every clip that means that your sequence settings do not correspond to your footage. Whatever the codec/compressor the footage was originally digitzed at must be reflected in the sequence settings. So what you want to do is create a NEW sequence in FCP. Then before you do anything else, go to the sequence settings and click on the load preset button. From the list available find the one that corresponds to your digitize settings. Select it and hit okay. Now you can edit without having to render.

If you don't want to have to do this for every new sequence you create for the project, then go into your Audio/Video Settings and change the Sequence Preset option in there to reflect your digitize settings. Now every new sequence you make will be aligned properly for you. Good luck.

cheers.
