Hey all... I frequent some other forums once in awhile, and I've acquired a few links to some composers looking for projects. I will try and make a list with some links on this thread. Keep in mind, they probably don't know about this competition, but I am taking the liberty of posting their sites on here, forseeing they would like work on some projects. Here are some links.

Here are some more links to some talented composers. I'll describe their style according to my opinion.

http://www.douglasedward.com/ - Think John Barry, or Bernard Herrmann
http://edgen.com/ - Hans Zimmerish with a bit of Horner
http://www.scottbuckley.tk/ - Danny Elfman meets John Williams
http://www.steve-dunster.com/ - This guy is just overall really nice and very talented. He can do many styles.

Oh yeah man. There are a lot more composers over there too that are really good. Those are just ones that came off the top of my head. Another great forum is:

It's scary how much musical talent hangs out there. It's like the DVXuser.com for composers.

Okay, just checked out the coolmusicguy.com ... not too impressed with that work, at least from the three things I listened to. Checking out other ones now. Thanks for these great leads guys!

Dunno how I overlooked this thread. Started listening to the music--

TheCoolMusicGuy.com -- If you ever contact him, ask him if he's played a Super Nintendo Game called Secret of Mana. I'd stake a huge chunk of cash on it that he has and he's a huge fan of Squaresoft video games. This guy could compose for a role playing game with no problem.

Golly, even got the founder of V-I to post over here! That'd be like Jarred posting over there offering up DP services & such.

It's incredible to see two different forums/communities connecting like this.

Anyone know of a really good FX/CGI community we can tap into for this festival as well?

ChrisHurn
03-11-2006, 10:07 PM
We could try Cgtalk.com - it's like DVXuser.com but a lot bigger and all about CG/art etc. I've recruited members for a few projects from there before.

Norm Sanders

Hmm, good one Chris. But they charge to join, don't they (thought I remembered you saying that once)?

Also, Chris, you're the one that kind of started this forum cross pollenization back for the sci-fest ... so thanks for the idea! You're kind of the grand-daddy of it!

ChrisHurn

Oh, no, but I did hear someone say that they did charge to join. There's another service which is part of CGtalk which isn't free (its for artists) but as far as I am aware the forum is free to register. I can always make a post there, I have an account and know quite a few members.

Make a post there, and have them post under the Hero fest thread.

Then later on, Maybe Jarred can make an outsource composer VFX thread/separate forum for future reference? Something like that.

This is friggin' Awesome! All of V.I. and AMS forums are coming on over!

If you filmmakers out there can't find one of us composers to do your film, you a) really suck. b)aweful social skills in communicating with us c)just plain retarded. (or mentally challenged to be correct)

So much talent here that's for sure. Definitely hit up CGTalk or www.3dtotal.com (http://www.3dtotal.com) Its basically the same core group of people just spread through a few boards.

Niah,

Welcome to DVXUser.com. Nice music, you should really get a project here with that!

I really encourage you to get a website though - team up with a web designer, maybe someone starting their portfolio or something (you could get it for free). You'll find you'll get a lot of people commenting on your music, and more projects will come your way!

Good luck and again, welcome to DVXuser.

Thanks Envision for your kind words.

You know, I'm loving the idea of having both our communities join forces. Who knows what can happen when you bring talented film makers and talented composers together. Your forum rocks! At VI we're composers, audio and music guys, but seem to have the same basic goal just different approaches (audio/visual). Who know? It would be relatively easy to construct a large team of audio and sound professional for just about any film project you might have in mind.

If you're essentially interested in having a particular genre or style and need an unbiased and pro opinion to help deciding which composer to pick (we have many) drop me a line at frederick@vi-control.net and I can recommend either individuals or for bigger projects, a team - from excellent midi-mockup artists to driving rock backbeat to full scale 88 piece symphony complete with arranger, conductor and recording team plus a custom score that mirrors John Williams (yes I know guys who are capable of this).

Let me know :)

Best,

Frederick Russ

Great to see more composers coming over.

Someone really needs to get on a VFX/3d forum now and do the same thing. Banding all three of these elements together can be a really good thing.

And oh yeah, I guess this time around there really should be ( like last time ) mention of best composer. With all the new people popping up, it'll be a good thing.

Frederick, thanks for the offcer. It's exciting to know that with a good budget, there's litterally a one-stop-shop for all our audio needs ... however, I'm assuming for most, including myself, collaboration for this short film fest won't have extensive budgets, if any, to work with.

My name's Dan Selby... another composer and sound designer here who saw Norm's thread at VI-Control - nice to be here! :)

I'm based near Manchester, UK. I do music and sound design, full-time, for TV, TV and film advertising and video games. I did score a couple of shorts a while back (no features yet) but would definitely like to do some more film work.

Please feel free to check out my site: www.indigomusic.co.uk (http://www.indigomusic.co.uk)

... there are plenty of examples of my work to listen to in the TV and Advertising sections of the site and you can watch my advertising showreel too. The Games section of the site still needs to be updated.

I tend to lurk more than post prolifically in forums... but it's great to have found you!

Hey guys, I know this sentiment has been given repeatedly, but let me say it again. It is great how you have all jumped on this opportunity and made yourselves available for these projects. I'm really looking forward to some outstanding scores this time around.

It would be nice to know if any of you also do other audio tasks like sweetening, foley, audio post engineering/mixing/mastering, etc (Please excuse me if I used the wrong terms, but I think you understand what I'm talking about :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) )

Doug, thank you very much. You're too kind.

Between shooting and scoring my film, scoring music for Peter Murphy's film, and some music for Kholi I think I'm all booked up.

People still needing music for their hero film should definitely look into Douglas Edward. That is; if he's not too busy. He has a solid education, and tons of knowledge into music theory. Not that those qualities automatically make you a great composer, but he also has heart.

For all of you composers out there who are looking for short film projects.
My name is Alex Magno and I am a director/choreographer (magnodance.com) and I am currently under pre-production for "Rhapsody Of Innocence" a low budget short musical fantasy (Mini35 Digital Film - shot on a HVX200+RedRock Cinema Adapter + Nikon Lenses and etc.) and I am looking for composers and lyricist to score the film an also to write musical segment of the film.
The film is based on the crises of "Child Soldiering" in the 3rd world. If this is your type of project and you would like to be involved, please submit your bio, a resume along with sample links of your work to: mpfilms-rhapofenno@sbcglobal.net
