Where the heck do you find decent actors who will work their butt off for you and don't mind not getting paid, or getting yelled at?

Craigslist is great! And, I also would check out local theatre's. Sometimes you can find decent talent, and they usually will do it for free.

I find that promising the actor money and not paying when filming is completed works sometimes.

The ability to run really fast is very helpful when using this method...

Oh yeah, you gotta move and change your name and phone number as well.

On second thought, I'd just try "please"...

oh i agree; i had one guy who i helped out and did his student short, and he promised me the copy. he also called me in another day to do a loop. i took time off of work and did this for him and he never gave me a copy. i asked him many times, the last time i told him if i see him again i will break his legs!:nads: he changed his number. no more student films:kali:.... i got :violent5:

I know this may be unlikely in some of the film mecas (i.e. LA, NY, etc.), but just call around to some agencies and see if they have any talent that aren't busy & would like to do an indie short film for the character experience, networking, etc.

You'll be surprised ... rule of thumb is, if you don't ask then the answer is already no.

That's how we got our female talent for PANDORA ... all three were provided by Ryan Artists Talent Agency in Portland, OR ... they gave me the contact info for about 9-10 of the ladies I liked the look of and they thought may be interested ... then just started calling.

Actors are easy. Give them food, and they'll do 'most anything. ;^)
