I am working on a project in AE6.5 and after applying Motion Blur to a clip I am not able to see it in preview window?!
I set the "shutter angle" in composition settings to a higher value (720 just for test) and enabled Motion Blur switch on timeline (for that particular clip) and I don't see any changes?!
What am I doing wrong? Do I have to render to see the results?
Thanks

try the ram preview and adjust it so it only plays everyother frame. that usually works for me.

ALso, check what quality level you have it at. If it's set to draft, that might be the culprit.

I know this might sound stupid, but you do know that AE only applies motion blur to objects that you animate in AE. For example, you can't just put a video clip in the timeline and add motion blur to it. You have to animate it (for example keyframe different position values). Then AE will add motion blur for the animation that AE created (the positional changes).

In addition to what else has been mentioned, not only do you have to check the motion blur box for the layer you want to apply it to, but you have to make dure the "M" button is pressed in the composition window. Thie enables motion blur to be previewed.

Thanks for all the help!
Please forgive my lack of knowledge here.
MrPolarBare:
I was not familiar with the fact that you have to animate/keyframe motion blur when you apply it to the clip. I thought you can do it like in Vegas. Import - Apply Motion Blur - Preview - Render. Of course you can keyframe depending on effect you want to achieve. So this is a must in AE?
Thanks!

Yeah, you have to animate the object/layer to get motion blur in AE.

There are plugins that let you add motion blur to video clips in AE, without having to animate the layer. Look at the ReelSmart Motion Blur plugin from Revision Effects.
Here is the link: http://www.revisionfx.com/mblur.htm
You can download a trial version of the plugin to see if this plugin gives you the effect you desire. Also, as a sidenote, Twixtor (another plugin by Revision Effects) allows you to add motion blur too. The nice thing about Twixtor is that it also allows you to do some really nice slow-mo stuff. It costs more than just the ReelSmart Motion Blur plugin, but it also does more. Check it out as well.

That's good info
Thanks
Hm...
I followed all the instructions regarding the activation of Mblur and couldn't succeed :(
After switching the Mblur on (on the acctual layer, in composition window and in composition settings) I can't see where I can keyframe it?!
Normaly, if I apply any of the effects to a layer in AE, they are automaticly shown under the layer in comp window.
With Mblur - nothing shows up!
I want to keyframe it - but I don't see it :)
What am I doing wrong....
Thanks

Oops...
I just realized that you have to animate the layer (or video clip) but not the acctual Mblur as an effect!
I think I was on the wrong path....
I have to cut down on coffee and cigs and sleep more :)
Thanks guys
