I've recently attained AE, and I wanted to know your favorite filters. Now, in response, I'm going to get around 12 "Magic Bullet" replies.

What are cool plug-ins? Are they free/cost money?

How have you used them?

NONE! :) :) :) :) :)

ok, ok. Aside from the purist approach, all of trapcode's offerings are top notch, just use them sparingly.

I'm with Kai on this one...you can do anything you want with everything you have.

Now, Trapcdoe plugs (and a few others) just make the process easier. Check out Frischluft, then have some nice DOF and Blur plugs that can help you get really nice boke.

Reelsmart has a few good plugins.

Mainly Twixtor (Best slowdown plugin for producing interpolated frames)
and Fields (for producing best 30P content from 60i)

Twixtor better than Retimer?

I like Trapcodes plugs too, Saphire has some good ones, but they can be a pain. You can get great results from them, but sometimes its a real workout.

Good call surf.

Knoll Unmult is very handy too.

I have red giant Primatte 3 and Composite Wizard and find them nice tools.

Having used Twixtor and Retimer I'd say that Twixtor yields better slow motion. It has better motion interpretation in my opinion.

it's definitely used too much but Trapcode's 3D Stroke is awesome.

Just got 3d Stroke, and I'm very impressed by it. It is used too much, but I think if it's done in the right context its ok. No more hip hop graffiti flying lines...that's become a little trite.

Yeah definitely...for a long time, every Comedy Central bumper used the hip hop flying lines.
