I just got my HVX delivered today and have seen several posts on here about using FCP 5.whatever with the HVX. Is there a way for me to use FCP 4.5 hd with it or do I need to upgrade?
Thanks

I think you will be able to get the footage to play... But to get full functionality for variable frame rates etc.; you need version 5.
You're in luck however. Because of the switch to universal-apps you can upgrade to the entire studio package for 199$. Go here: http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/

No you need FCP 5.0.4 to both import P2 media from a P2 card and to load DVCPRO HD over firewire from the camera.

Thanks, that was what I was thinking. I called Apple earlier today about the $199 upgrade and they said they won't be shipping until late March. I want to get it before then so I think I may just buy an upgrade on ebay or something.

One more question, once I get upgraded to FCP 5 where how do I upgrade for free to 5.04?
Thanks

You just use the Software Update feature in OS X, and it will find and install the update automatically

I called Apple and found out I can't update because I have the 'Academic' version of FCP 4.5. What a load of crap.
