With the SD Camcorders it was no problem to capture anything directly onto my Computer via firewire. The picture quality was the same as on the tape. The HDV camcorders do not support this possibility any more (the Canon has a HD live stream, but it requires expensive extra gear to be computer readable).
Does the HVX 200 offer the possibility to capture the HD format pictures 720p or 1080i directly with my capturing software?
For example in a studio situation I could then connect the camera to my computer and would not be restricted to the 16 GB of the cartridges. Is that possible?
Being in Europe, I can't find this out for myself, we still do not know when the PAL Version of the camera is shipping.
Thank you
jörg

This is not true. I had a Canon XL H1 over the weekend and I was able to monitor the full resolution over normal 5 meter Firewire cable on my Thinkpad in DVrack with the HDV option pack. What you see and can record live is 1:1 what will be recorded to tape or what will be played back later from tape. In addition you get a nice waveform monitor and vectorscope. I can just recommend this piece of software

Only when you want to capture the uncompressed 4:2:2 output, then you need an expensive machine. Best, with the Cineform Codec.

Yes you can capture HVX footage live through firewire, using Avid or Canopus or FCP software, and completely bypass the P2 cards.

as to the canon xl h1, I seem to have been misinformed. I was told technical difficulties (the gop issue) would prevent hdv cameras from feeding the picture live via firewire, but thinking about it, that really doesn't make a lot of sense. But there should be a delay of a second or so...
I was finally able to talk to someone at panasonic germany and was told that the first delivery at the end of march is confirmed. This of course is only interesting for the few german members of this forum.
