Hi ... no doubt a dumb question, but i'll go ahead and ask it anyways as i already searched and don't seem to see it mentioned ...

I am about to begin work on a doc and want to make absolutely sure what format I should be shooting in ... as I want to future proof the doc (and keep the option open that it will be picked up as a HD product) should I be shooting 1080p?

It is currently scheduled to be broadcast later on this year, but because of the cost of editing HD, I was planning on downconverting to SD for this intended TV broadcast.
Just wanted to have an HD version so that in the future it could be edited as HD and sold as such.

Next question ... since I want to use the variable frame feature on the HVX, can I shoot 720p when i need to change up frame rates and then when editing, mix this in with the 1080p that i'd be using for the majority of the doc (interviews, etc.)? Does this result in crappy looking footage? Do the majority of HD broacast channels specify 1080 (p or i) and if so, would having some shots in 720p prevent the doc from being picked up by an HD channel?

Cheers, beck

I believe you would need to uprez the 720 footage to 1080 if you were going to output the entire edit as 1080.

I haven't seen any footage uprezed from 720 to 1080 yet, maybe someone with a camera can do a test...if not, then I'll do one when I get mine tomorrow and let you know as I'm planning on doing something similar with a feature I'm shooting later this year.

One question I do have is, what would be the best method for uprezing the footage...is it something that FCP could do or would it be better to do in in After Effects for more control.
