What is the proceedure for transfering footage from a P2 card in the camera to an Ibook?

Does it simply show up as a drive? DO I need a P2 reader driver?

I am shooting second camera on a spot for SD with a varicam as the main cam.

any suggestions for a best match?

I'll be editing in FCP - so should I shoot 720P30 or 720P 30N to save drive space on the P2?

And for overcrank should I shoot at 720P 30N?

Put the camera in 1394 DEVICE mode, and plug into the Mac via firewire. Should show up in the Finder as a hard disk. From there you just copy the footage over.

If you're shooting 30P and editing on FCP, there's no reason to not use 30PN.

Shoot 720 24PN mode, that will save you space or 720 30PN. The (N) is for native so it natively records the 24 or 30 frames and no additional frames. Once you're in the 720 24PN mode, you can adjust the frame rate and shoot at variable speeds.

Your iBook should work good for transferring the footage but for playback, you won't be able to view it full screen. That's the only downside I've been seeing from it. I have to size the HVX footage to 25 or 50% quality to get smooth playback. Kinda wish I had coughed up the extra money and gotten a 12 powerbook or something.
