I don't have my HVX (wait-list) so I can't experiment yet, but it seems to me that noise reduction algorithms could be a big help. There are a few plugins available for FCP that claim to reduce noise by averaging pixels in areas without motion... they must use a system similar to mpeg compression to identify the pixels to be averaged, but of course without the final compression step.

I am skeptical that the current algorithms available will be the holy-grail we are looking for, I believe that future algorithms tuned for the HVX specifically might be winners.

Here is a link to a group of free FCP plugins including a noise reducer (enter an email address to download)....

From a quick google search it looks like there are a few plugins available to mess around with. Perhaps contacting the programmers with HVX noise examples and some donations might get some minds on the problem.

Also... I must admit that my level of knowledge about the HVX is more limited than I would like it to be, but I wonder if panasonic could introduce a firmware upgrade that includes some type of similar noise processing inside the camera?

<EDIT> Check out this link for before and after noise reduction-- this is not a video app, but it gives you the idea... http://www.neatimage.com/examples.html

Neatimage have a video version also I think.
