I have a question regarding the news gamma...
when is it possible to use it? sometimes it's off (in blue), and I know that has something to do with the recording format.

It's only active if you're shooting 60p or 60i, and in VIDEO CAM mode (not FILM CAM mode).

Barry, how does it look? I think "news gamma"is such a silly definition for a gamma... What does it mean? Does it mean that if you shoot with this mode your footage turns into CNN live footage with breaking news happening while you shoot? Or does a Cnn type logo appears (user costumizable) with a satellite dish and a LIVE info when you start shooting? Do you get immediately credible looking middle -age anchors when you start shooting in this gamma? :) (hey, just kidding- decided to wait for the Pal release, you know :) )

It doesn't look terribly different from any of the others. It seems like it's optimized for protecting against blowouts; it's a gamma curve for completely uncontrolled situations. The way they describe it they make it sound like you could be shooting an interview with someone and then hear spaceships landing behind you so you'd swing the camera around to point in the sky; whereas other gammas might blow out the sky, news tries to hold onto it a little deeper. But it doesn't deliver the nicest-looking pictures, and I don't believe it has more range than cinelike_d; it's just another choice.
SO the HVX is the definitive camera to have whe Mars attacks :)
