WE are in preproduction for a feature which will feature many bathroom scenes - here is some formally lit tests with the hvx - quicktime encoding muddies it up a bit - but looks not too far:

Formerly lit?

With what? It looks fairly flat to me.

flat yes but lit nonetheless for specific things that we needed to see in the test. So I figured I would share since it was already created. and quicktime muddies it up quite a bit - original footage is more contrasty.

But thanks for the incredibly helpful comment.

i know this is a test, but if you are using that tripod or that camera operator for the real thing, i suggest getting rid of one or the other. the camera work isn't that great.

And why would you need to do a test with that lighting?? there is nothing to test. you just wash the room and there you go right. Or am I wrong and you guys did you placement for your lights, and that just didn't come out in the video. If that is the case then doing that test is a good thing so you can change it. Now I am not saying this to rag on you. I am saying this to try and help you get the best product you can.

yes we are replacing the tripod - the head is far too light for the hvx so that is true.

as for the lighting much of it became general lighting because we couldnt place the lights where we needed to - it was a very small space and we are waiting on autopoles to get the lights off the floor and move them to the ceiling where we can place them where we want to.

I just looked at the original (uncompressed) and there is a lot more play of shadow that got washed out in the conversion. But certainly not enough. So yes we are working that out. in addition we are trying to balance the need for light and shadow to make the lighting interesting and at the same time have the lighting look like bathroom lighting which is usually quite general.

A small place with white walls means if you put too much light in there, it will bounce around and ruin your contrast. You might be overlighting. try using smaller fixtures (150w) or filling yours with ND. Good luck!

thanks taubkin - its a good point and we have some 150s on order right now just for that reason. We were also using open faced which you can control for crap. frensnels will be the way to go in this type of space

hmmm - that is a very surprising comment. I think it may look videoish due to compression and the lighting issues discussed above.

shot at 24pn
cine-d gamma
chroma +3
mast ped -3
detail - 3
coring +2
shutter 180 deg 91/48th)

Flatly lit i agree with - but not videoish - but thanks for the opinion

Yeah, but I would consider dedos too. Compact fixtures that get you a small and focalized punch.

Good Luck!
