I finally got my computer back from the shop and it's the first time I got to introduce Mr.HVX to Mr FCP and their getting along great.

Log and Capture through firewire worked great the very first try, it was so simple I felt like I'm leaving something out. And it was extremely stable as well, tried to crash it by opening and closing log and capture, and couldn't get it to crash.

My one issue is I can't figure out how to view the variable frame rate footage at the vfr speed in FCP. I'm recording 720p24 at 48 fps. I capture to FCP and it comes in as a 59.97 stream. So the Sequence settings are now set to 720p60 but it plays back at "normal" speed. How do I convert it to the 48fps slow mo?

Once I can figure this out, I'm set! Anybody who's been using shooting Variable Frame Rate and using FCP help me out?

OP,

Do a search for FRC for FCP (frame rate Convertor) on the web. It's an installer that will add a FRC menu item under "tools" in FCP. It converts the flagged frames to the proper 24P framerate.

Or I perty sure you can just use Cinema tool that is already on your computer to do it

Thanks CKArcher, found the frame rate converter and it worked like a charm. Slow Mo - Hallelujah! You can't do it with cinema tools as far as I could figure out. If you could, I would think Panny wouldn't really need to give out the plugin.

Here's the link for anyone else looking for the solution in the future:

in cinema tools you just need to conform the clip to whatever frame rate you want it to play back at. None the less im sure the FRC is faster being in FCP

Did you say you were recording 720p or 720pn? The n (native) resolution is the one designed for variable frame rate in the HVX. If that's OK, and if you also have Avid, you can use that. Xpress Pro and Adrenaline support that feature of the HVX even though they neglected to include that fact in their documentation.
