i always had it mind to upgrade my 100 to a 200 and they come out in teh UK here in 4 weeks. Ive just been reading up and found out that:

1. its not true 1080p but interlaced and you have to pulldown in post
2. an 8mb P2 card cost almost 1000 pounds and that will give you 8 mins of HD footage !!!

can anyone confirm or disprove the above ? The storage is a bit of an issue as it bumps teh price up considerably. Also when bringing in teh HD footage to edit and grade etc.. can you apply effects to it, retime it, filters etc... no problem ? Or do I have to reprocess it out after its had pulldown applied ?

I'm not sure about your first point, but I can confirm the second. That's the main reason I decided to get a DVX.

1. No. The HVX-200E will record in 1080p25 as well. look here: http://panasonic-broadcast.com/index.cfm?uuid=A130E452C09F11269B89B84D8643F16D&pid=11481&catid=4283&ClassID=69
2. Yes, the recording time in 1080p is 8 minutes on a 8 GB card. 16 minutes in 720p25.

The statements about the camcorder being "1080i/720p" refers to the codecs used.

DVCPRO HD 1080 records 25p as 25psf just like how the DVX100 did 25p. It's a real 25p capture, but the actual image is encoded in two fields for easier integration in existing environments. The result is identical to a teoretical 1080p recording.

DVCPRO HD 720 records 25 as 25 full frames in 720p25n or 50 frames in 720p25.

Again this is just how the codec works and how the signal is transmittitet, the content is the same be it 1080i25psf or 1080p25.

1080p mode on the HVX200 works just like 480p on the DVX100. Panasonic used their DVCPROHD CODEC, which only supports 1080i and 720p. So when the camera records 1080p, it splits the full progressive frame across interlaced fields. Your NLE can rebuild the progressive frames on import, just as it does with 480p video captured from a DVX. The HVX200 is a true 1080p camera and the CCD scans progressively. And like with the DVX, it offers both 24p and 24pa (advanced 2:3:3:2) mode options for 24p modes recorded over both 480i and 1080i.

In reality though, most people will be using this camera for 720p. A few of the camera's biggest features like the variable frame rates are not available in 1080p.

just as it does with 480p video captured from a DVX.

strange... all ive ever done with mt DVX is capture the prog. footage in syudio dv and then bring it into after effects, i never have to apply any pulldown or fancy interpretation ???
