View Full Version : Component Out not carrying video from NLE

I am using the HVX to display video in my FCP timeline on a regular SD preview monitor. The composite out carries everything FCP throws at it in the DV/DVCPRO/DVCPRO50 (anything HD does not play through but when FCP stops playing the frame at the time marker is sent out). The Component out carries nothing.
Is there a setting I missed or is this just not possible? Component will send all signals from the camera in Camera and MCR modes but not from FCP through the Firewire cable.

Interestingly enough FCP can only send NTSC video playback out in NTSC, DVCPro NTSC, and DVCPro 50 NTSC. No DVCProHD.

I have not tried Digital Cinema Desktop yet to see if it's a cleaner way to go....no extra computer monitors here right now.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're sending DVCProHD via FireWire to the HVX, then wanting the HVX to down convert to SD. If I'm remembering correctly from when I tried this, it doesn't work.

I would just use your main monitor for playback until you can afford and HD card to do the down convert or better yet and HD monitor and card.

In the manual it says: component outputs do not function when in firewire-input mode.

If you're monitoring on a standard-def monitor you can still use the s-video or composite outputs.

Yes. I was trying to use the HVX as a bridge/convertor to see if it would work. It doesn't.

I totally missed that. All I saw was that the component out disables all the other outputs.

Thanks for setting me straight Barry. :)

so what is suggested for powerbook editors who want to preview via component? the powerbook can't accept an aja or decklink card. is there any alternatives on how to do this or is s-video pretty much our only option(editing on a powerbook)?

I would guess that we would use the Cinema Desktop feature connected via DVI to something like the Dell 2405 monitor. I have not tried it but it seems reasonable.
