Can anyone recommend some good settings? I have a client who needs me to shoot PAL, but all I have is the HVX200 NTSC. What would be the cleanest conversion? (I'm using FCP)

shoot @ 24fps and use cinema tools to conform it to 25fps. You'll have to speed your audio up 4% too (use soundtrack)

Actually the audio will stay in sync when conforming a clip in cinema tools.
But the pitch will change!
If you go from 24p to 25p you actually play the clip 4% faster, the duration is 4% shorter and the audio is pitched up 4%.
Here is how you can conform a master clip or an edited 24p sequence to 25p:
1. export the 24fps timeline to a Quicktime file. (Can be a small reference file)
2. open the Cinema Tools application.
3. Choose "Open Clip" (CMD+O)
4. Click the "Conform" button
5. choose "25" from the popup.
6. The framerate of the file has now changed from 24 to 25, just by changing a flag.
The audio will also be in sync, but will have a 4% higher pitch.
And like that you now have a 25 fps master!
(Beware that cinamatools changes the original file on disk. Dont do this to an original backup quicktime)
You can easily compensate using FCP's built in "Pitch AU" effect:
1. Go to effects>audiofilters>apple>AUPitch,
2. Double click the AUPitch effect. It will load into the viewer.
3. In the viewer set the "Pitch" parameter to "-71"
4. Drag the effect from the viewer onto the clips you want to correct.
(All the other options in the AUPitch will tweak it's performance. A Pitchchange can either be optimized for keeping rythm or tone or somewhere in between)
