All completed ballots must be returned by midnight EDT on Sunday February 26 to contact@dvxuser.com. When you save your ballot, the filename should be username-ballot2.xls with your username.
All DVXusers with 100 posts at the time they vote are eligible to rate the films. Please, no flurries of garbage posts just to get your totals up--you can aways vote in the next and future fests. Anyone is allowed to view entries.
Each film will be rated on a scale from 1-10 in seven different categories.
The categories are:
Special Effects - This is a special category that doesn't contribute to the final score so as not to handicap films without SFX. Keep in mind that some of the best SFX are subtle and may be hard to recognize as SFX. If you want to reward a film with outstanding SFX, you can also up the Cinematography score a bit.
Cinematography - How well does the filmmaker use the language of film? Camera movement, mise en scène. You can include editing in this category as well.
Lighting - Pretty self-explanatory.
Sound Design - How well is the soundtrack mixed? Did the filmmaker include foley, sound effects, and capture clear dialogue? How well does the audio track contribute to creating atmosphere?
Score - The quality of the musical score. Is it appropriate for the film?
Screenplay - Is there a strong story with a beginning, middle and end? Is the story coherent and appropriately written for a six minute film? Is the dialogue natural?
Acting - Are the performances compelling and believable?
Overall Rating - This is the average of all the other categories excluding SFX and is computed automatically in the spreadsheet.
You don't have to rate every film, but for the films you do rate, you must fill in every category with the exception of SFX if it doesn't apply. Please be fair and honest. Voting irregularities may get a film disqualified and this includes intentionally downrating other films. Filmmakers are free to give their own films 10's across the board although most filmmakers rate themselves objectively. Good luck to all the filmmakers and thanks to everyone who participates in the viewing and voting.
thanks everyone!
