The ballot for voting on Sci-Fest films is located at:

Sci-Fest Ballot (Excel--please use this if at all possible) (http://64.38.14.38/Ballot.zip)

There are just under 60 films. We have put them in Zip files
to make the workflow a little faster. Download all 5 Zip files,
unzip them and watch, then vote.

All completed ballots must be returned by midnight EDT on Sunday February 26 to contact@dvxuser.com. When you save your ballot, the filename should be username-ballot2.xls with your username.

All DVXusers with 100 posts at the time they vote are eligible to rate the films. Please, no flurries of garbage posts just to get your totals up--you can aways vote in the next and future fests. Anyone is allowed to view entries.

Each film will be rated on a scale from 1-10 in seven different categories.

The categories are:

Special Effects - This is a special category that doesn't contribute to the final score so as not to handicap films without SFX. Keep in mind that some of the best SFX are subtle and may be hard to recognize as SFX. If you want to reward a film with outstanding SFX, you can also up the Cinematography score a bit.

Cinematography - How well does the filmmaker use the language of film? Camera movement, mise en scène. You can include editing in this category as well.

Lighting - Pretty self-explanatory.

Sound Design - How well is the soundtrack mixed? Did the filmmaker include foley, sound effects, and capture clear dialogue? How well does the audio track contribute to creating atmosphere?

Score - The quality of the musical score. Is it appropriate for the film?

Screenplay - Is there a strong story with a beginning, middle and end? Is the story coherent and appropriately written for a six minute film? Is the dialogue natural?

Acting - Are the performances compelling and believable?

Overall Rating - This is the average of all the other categories excluding SFX and is computed automatically in the spreadsheet.

You don't have to rate every film, but for the films you do rate, you must fill in every category with the exception of SFX if it doesn't apply. Please be fair and honest. Voting irregularities may get a film disqualified and this includes intentionally downrating other films. Filmmakers are free to give their own films 10's across the board although most filmmakers rate themselves objectively. Good luck to all the filmmakers and thanks to everyone who participates in the viewing and voting.

thanks everyone!

Jarred,

Would it be possible to post a Sci-Fest Viewing banner that pops up on the homepage every once in awhile? To remind all the other hundreds of dvx users to go check out the flicks and, even if they can't vote, to join in on the individual discussions? Maybe even post it on some other DV sites? Might even help to drum up some new members..

C.R.

Great job with the contest!

Just curious...

Would it be possible to calculate averages for each category for each film? So for example, we would know how our film rated in each of the defined categories... FX, Cinematography, Lighting... etc.

The comments and criticisms are EXCELLENT, but not everyone comments on every aspect, and as filmmakers (and aspiring filmmakers) it would help us to know how we scored for improvements next time...

Just a suggestion :)

Ooo Nice - I like this better than the old system I think

EDIT: Whatever happened to not being able to direct link to images?

That's the whole idea behind breaking the ratings up into individual categories. It'll help give the filmmakers a much better idea of where their strong and weak points are rather than scratching your head a general overall score. So yes, we'll absolutely be posting the averages for each category for each film.

Jarred,

What was the original link to the page with the entire list of movies for download? I've almost seen them all and would rather not have to download all those zip files to view the few remaining ones...

Is there a voting booth, similar to the one used for the zombie-fest? (actually, having a booth may make things go slower, as I had issues saving my current spot, and wanted to skip to other videos, etc.)

You need to download the ballot from the main page, and then send it in to the email listed before the deadline (Feb. 26)

It looks like I've only downloaded SciFest ZIP's 1-4, and I'm missing 5. I think some of the winners are in 5 (like CPU). Does anyone here have SciFest zip 5 to post so I can see the rest of the film?

Thank you!
