How much are the variable frame rates worth?

One of the huge, huge plusses of the HVX is the variable frame rate.

Now I'm asking: How much is it worth? Put in a different way: I take it in 90% of the cases I will use the 60p-for-24/25p, no rates below that. The 60p comes in 720, not 1080. I'm asking: Isn't it reasonable to assume that the other cams (H1 in particular) are able to produce a similar result by shooting 1080/60i, then take the 60 half frames (which all come from different time slots) and make 60 720p full frames out of it? Shouldn't be a big deal. And it's not a "fake" slow-mo since you actually have 60 frames from 60 different time slots. Even the resolution shouldn't be that different with going from 1080 to 720 (well, some slight interpolation still needed, granted).

Anyone with me?

So how much is the variable frame rate of the HVX worth, considering that you will probably use 60 frames? For what case would you need other variable frame rates, given that the HVX can't shoot ramps (=accelerates frame rates)?

as posted many times here you cannot get true smooth slo mo by just taking fewer frames from a 60 frame stream. Your motion blur wont be correct. to understand why you need to understand shutter angle and why 180 degrees means a different shutter speed for different frame rates
