Hey i didn't see anything on this but if i somehow missed it or something go ahead and lock this sucker up.
anyone seen this movie? i'm going to see it tonight with my cousin. i'm a big sam jackson fan and all but something doesnt seem right about the movie.. the only reason i'm seeing it is cause there isn't really anything else better out there or i've seen everything else already.
it looks good but i'm not holding high hopes for it.
anyone else wanna comment???

I saw the interview on Charlie Rose with the director of Freedomland and it was very interesting. The guy has been a studio exec for the last 33 years and this would be his first official directorial venture. It was interesting to see how he was drawing comparisions with the business and the art of filmmaking. He also pointed out couple of things that sounded very interesting
1. If you cant sell the movie in a 30 sec commerical you have no chance of selling the movie
2. The days of 1 month cycle for marketing the movies are coming soon where everything will be done within a month from launch to dvd.
3. Key to being a good director is to read lots of stuff !!
4. The script did the studio rounds for many years and Sam Jackson turned it down twice before accepting it.
Anyway it was kind of interesting.

i just saw this. i didn't really like it. it was drawn out long. sam jackson wasn't that bad. he could have been better though. i didn't really like julianne moore's acting at all. i usually like her stuff but this wasn't that good. i think the movie was only like 1hr 45min but it could have shaved off some time.
i won't rent it when it comes out... 2 outta 5 stars

The NYTimes said that it is the first candidate for worst movie of the year for 2006. They completely ripped it apart in today's edition (technically yesterday's)

I haven't heard many good things about this one which is surprising particularly considering it stars Samuel L. Jackson and Julianne Moore.

may apply to being a good filmmaker in general but not directing. I totally disagree. unless he just meant filmmaking. or is that the same thing?

I saw this at a press screening & hated, hated, HATED it.
It's just as bad as the trailers made it look.

I agree. Julianne Moore is really good but if the scipt is not strong enough or if the director is not able to manage the scenes well even a good actor could look terrible.
About my earlier note on Directing, it was in the context of looking for a good story idea. The best way to jog your imigination is to read lots of stuff. I guess thats what the director meant.

I think Roeper smokes wacky weed from a crack pipe.
