I combed through a lot of the topics on this forum but couldn't find a definite answer, so If someone could help me out and tell me step by step how to get mfx files from an HVX into Final Cut Pro 5, I would be greatly appreciative. I have the files on a firewire drive and I'm working with a G4.
Thanks again.

1. Be sure you have copied all the content of the root of the P2 card to a folder on the Harddrive. FCP needs the whole structure to be intact for every card you have backed up.
2. In FCP select: "file>import>panasonic P2" from the menu bar.
3. click the "+" button in the upper part of the window.
4. select a "contents" folder of the P2 backup folder. Click ok
5. select all the clips in the import window. Click ok.

Anders,
I tried what you said...an error message comes up implying that the footage isn;t there. Are those the steps you take to import footage directly from the p2 card? Thats what it seems to imply. I copied everything off the firewire drive. Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks

The keypoints are:
- you must have FCP 5.0.4, prior versions will only import SD media from P2 not HD.
- If you copy items from your P2 cards before import, you must copy the whole card structure to the folder on your disk, otherwise FCP wont import it.
If you get raw .MXF files from somewhere, you currently can't import those into FCP, as it needs the structure of the P2 card to work. The next FCP update might change this...

also the contents folder cannot be renamed anything other than it's original name (contents), or it will not recognize it's...contents.
