I posted a link a while ago and no one...and I mean NO ONE responded.
I've been following this film since it was in production and I think it looks great.

It certainly has potential. The acting looks good in the trailers, too.

It seems like one of those great indie films thats able to pull a good story and impliment it with only a couple characters...

Holy Sh*t! That's all I have to say. This movie was freaking amazing. I basically loved everything about it. From the script to the acting to the filmmaking. Wow wow and wow again. This movie will become either a classic or, if not enough people see it, a cult classic. I can't really tell you anything more as if you choose to see it you should see it knowning as little as possible. The lead girl will go on to become one of Hollywood's biggest stars. Even though this is the worst time to release a movie for academy consideration, and that the academy frowns upon thrillers, I honestly think she might get a nomination. Go see this movie now!

i really want to see it. it looks very good. the girl that's in it is the new Kitty Pryde in X-Men The Last Stand. she plays a 14 year old in this movie and almost 20 in X-Men. All the reviews that I've heard have said that she's fantastic in Hard Candy. In fact that's the reason Brett Ratner hired her for X3. Anyway, ya it looks very good. Upon hearing C.G.'s review I'm even more interested in seeing it.

I heard a review for it on NPR the other day and I can't wait to see it.

Ebert and Roeper gave it 2 thumbs up... but they said it was very disturbing subject matter and that they squirmed in their seats watching it....

yeah, from what i've read its like the end of Takashi Miike's Audition, extended over the duration of the film. men, in particular, will find the film's centerpiece disturbing.
anyone who doesn't mind having the whole film spoiled can read all the gory details here...

I just saw it today and thought it was one of the better films that I've seen recently. There were some points in the story where I was like, "Come on..." But for the most part it was really solid filmmaking and the look it had was really cool.

Very excited to see this one. Right this moment, however, I'm off to see Brick.

Hahaha, that was a good one cygnet74. It took me a moment to realize what was on the poster. I didn't know a DVXuser membership carried so much weight in the industry.

Brick is pretty awesome. I'm not sure what is noir about this movie, exactly, but I'm still excited to see it.

20D timelapse hu, good choice. If you need any help with that part of it, which I'm sure you more than likely don't, I would be happy to help. I'm over in the ABC building all next week for the pilot screenings.

yeah, i love the 20d/timelapse...im going to NYC at the end of the week to shoot a butt load of timelapse...im thinking about renting a 5d so we can get a full frame image...so that my 16-35 will actually be a 16-35. shooting with a crazy stack of ND filters to retain shallow DOF...will be sweet.
btw...we actually do need help with the still work in LA on tues/wed. im going to PM in you the AM for some info...

5D with timelapse would look pretty sick. I would like to get that camera only if it had a faster fps on it. But I guess its more of a still shot than an action camera.
I'll look for your PM.

Managed to see this yesterday in London, not an original idea, but like I always say, forget ideas, it's about execution. This movie was very well executed. Great editing, great cinemaphotography, i didn't think it was as disturbing as I thought it'd be, but i guess once you;ve seen anything by miike, everything else is tame. Kind of a stroke between death of a maiden and audition.

Man, Ebert and Roeper werent kidding, this movie was nuts but I have to admit, it was good.
Anyone else feel bad for the guy? I mean, sure he deserved 50% of that suffering, but the other was just too much.
Anyways, great indepedent film.

Really liked Hard Candy. It got a little redundant towards the end for me though.
I did not like Brick however. I wanted to, but it was just... eh. By the middle of the movie I could have cared less what happened and who did what. Nice concept, mediocore script for me.

Same here, Brick was a long boring flick to me. I admit, it was original, and acting was well executed, but just the film itself wasn't what I had expected.

It's the school across town from the one all the John Hughes characters go to. On Saturday nights they have angst rumbles to the sounds of Cole Porter and Simple Minds.

Finally watched HARD CANDY. Loved it. Sure there were story problems, but the acting, the directing, the cinematography, the music, the editing ... very nice flick. Haven't seen a 2 person 1 location thriller this good in a long, long time.

Yeah you are right. Not since "Death and the Maiden" has there been a 1 location thriller this good.

my only complaint was the lack of tone is some areas of the film where it was silent. it could have been my tv, i lack surround sound and that cool stuff. but the scene when she's outside and you don't really hear anything. no birds, cars or nothing. and a few spots interior when it just sounds empty, no tone. but other than that i was very impressed with it.
