Recently downloaded the newest AE 7 off adobe.com and installed it. Chose trail to begin with and everytime I get this error during startup. Have tried re-installing, rebooting, making sure all programs/virusscan off, etc. No idea whats causing it.
Second error is what pops up when I hit okay on the first error box.

Note: I get the same error with 6.5 and 7, so it's not exclusive to 7

I dunno, no issues here. Maybe a registry data error. You have AE 6.5 or less? if you do (or if you dont), uninstall, run a registry cleaner and try re-installing. There may be a leftover packet from a previous or current installation of AE that is tripping the error. So clean the registry and start with that.
The second error looks like it could be a ram issue perhaps?
ye, it looks like a ram thing. do you have all the win updates?

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and updates are automatically downloaded+installed.
I tried uninstalling AE 7 and re-installing AE 6.5 and now getting the same error. If it is a problem with the registry as the first response mentioned, can someone recommend a good registry cleaner for this solution?
ye, there is a software called regclean or regcleaner. it is free and it is made by the Microsoft

Uninstalled 6.5, ran regclean, fixed errors, installed 7.0. Problem exists

Also tried that. Uninstalled 7, ran that program, cleared out Adobe + other junk (except for Acrobat entries since I have Acrobat). Re-installed 7, problem exists.

Found the problem:
Uninstalled ffdshow codec.
After effects works now! YESS!
I would have never thought of that... nowadays I do not have ffdswow

glad the problem is fixed...i had the 0:42 error when I upgraded to AE7...the problem happened when I tried to exit or close AE...upgrading my video driver fixed the issue.
