nice. i liked the story and scene w/ the friend. the fx were cheezy at times but this helped with the ironic tone of the movie. maybe the farting was a tad overdone. over all its one of my favorites so far! it really stuck in my min...nice work

Thanks, we had a little bit too much fun making this one. We started filming the Thursday before the deadline, so we had many sleepless nights tryying to finish. I'm glad you liked it though.

This film rocked. TAKE THAT SCI FI! I loved how it started off just like nay other sci fi film, but then went to something totally twisted. How very, very punk. I don't have nearly enough posts to vote, but I am so tempted to rack up 90 more in the next week, just so I can give this one some high marks.

Best of luck!

Really one of the best so far!!! It reminds me of a South Park episode which was also very funny, I guess Cartman get an alien probe in his ass too. I also like the actors, they were very funny. Keep up the good work!!!

The scene where the guy's dumping his garbage and sees the dude looking up his friend's ass singe-handedly saved the rest of the film for me.

Funny as poo!

Are we aloud to post frame grabs from the films in these threads. Becuase that one shot of the guy point up the other's ass is undeniably the one funniest shot of any film I have seen in a long long time. - Not to mention A+ avtar mateial.

Yes the fartign was over done, even with the idea of the peice.

You had me in stiches by the end of this one.

Okay, I'm an ass, and WAY off base from what everyone else is saying, so feel free to completely disregard what I'm about to say, because I'm obviously in the minority.

This film ranked low for me ... not the lowest, but low. I felt the story was weak (though I joked around about doing a probe film at first too), as well as the acting, score, etc.

Don't get me wrong, the premise is funny, and if this is simply intended as a gag film, then it delivered, as gag films rarely need good FX, acting, score, etc. to be appreciated ... but from a technical view or story, it was severely lacking, I felt.

The "plop" in the toilet SFX was dead on, however, and the probe at the end made my butt pucker thinking about having that come out, barbs & all.

This is going to be one of those films that grow on me, I can tell, like NAPLOEAN DYNAMITE. Watching that film the first time I didn't care for it, and didn't know what the fuss was about.

Now I've probably seen it 5-6 times, we own it, and I laugh each time I see parts of it now, or even think about it.

While I still don't like the production value or story/script in this, the idea is irreverantly funny, and that still makes me chuckle (good job, Mikko).

ENVISION, as far as your first post is concerned, I would never disregard constructive criticism. This is the stuff that we like to hear. It helps us get better every time we shoot something. I do appreciate your comments. By the by, it was supposed to be a gag film, I'm glad you saw that in it.

As far as your second post is concerned, I'm glad it's growing on you. Soon you won't be able to stop saying, "I nedd you...to look...up my ass!"

Awesome, thanks again.

I haven't read anyone else's feedback, so here is my review, and if I repeat stuff other people said, well sorry in advance...

Green Means Go – At first I didn’t know what the hell I was watching. Great alien, not sure if it was CGI, blow up, or what, but you grabbed my attention from the start and held it. I’m a sucker for dick and fart jokes, and this movie had no shortage. I didn’t like the big great effect because it looked too clean compared with everything else, but interesting none the less. Funny film. I think that you could improve in any area that you wanted to, from some better sound (foley more than dialogue), shot selection, use of DOF. I really enjoyed this film for what it was rather than what could have been improved. You had me laughing and that’s not easy. Your actors looked like they had fun, so good job on a quality submission.

Okay, I'm popping out of my own order here because I've been dying to comment on this one.

This sh!t was funny -- PUN INTENDED!!

Criticisms... lighting indoors coulda used some work... was a bit flat at times.

But overall this movie was a crackup! The Alien at the beginning seemed so serious but when he came floundering out of the corn I about fell out of my seat laughing so hard.

I also died laughing when the lead has his friend look up is @ss and they are transported out into the field... oh my god, the guy in the background was CLASSIC!!

The "Look ... up... my... @ss" camera shot/edits were great... great use of cinematography/editing to enhance humor.

And what can I say about the sound FX but that you can NEVER go wrong with fart sounds!

Okay, so I can't rank the production value up there with the top films, and there were little flaws throughout, but guys, you did a great job making something entertaining... and not everyone has done that! I REALLY enjoyed this one!

Some really funny stuff in here, more the social awkwardness once the friend shows up than the simple fart gags. I didn't think the acting detracted from it at all, myself, and the repeated shot of the field and the dumpster worked well. I thought from the first time it came up "why is that dumpster there? It's huge and green, it must have a purpose." Made the man tossing out his garbage pay off that much better.

The look kinda threw me, as the contrast was so low I couldn't tell it was even shot on a DVX. The humor is there, but the look just threw me.

Just $0.02. Look forward to next time with you guys.

That very well could be the most farting sound fx
this side of Blazing Saddles.

I gotta say you have a well developed sense of humor. The comedic writing was fairly solid, and the sight gags really worked. I must agree with Yankee on the "alien/probe" scene itself...I felt it was effective in setting up the story.

I do feel that some improvements in production value would have helped. I would like to have seen more dramatic lighting/cinematography...this stark contrast with the outlandish subject matter would have only added to the humor IMHO.

As far as original comedic premises, you many
be on to something here...or...in to something,
as the case may be.

Cheers

A buddy of mine emailed me at work, and told me to check this film out. He said it was the most bizarre and hilarious thing he ever saw. Damnit if he wasn't right. I laughed so hard, I can honestly say, although ashamedly so, a little pee actually came out.

Hey!

I haven't read any other posts for you movie, so I am really sorry if i repeat!

I have very mixed feelings about this one. One the one hand, as a fun no-frills movie, I find it hilarious. On the other, as a serious movie entered into a contest I find it lacking. Let me explain what I mean...

It has all the elements of a great South Park episode, but none of the finesse. The shots are nothing special. Lighting is non-existent. Acting is sub-par. Even to be a fun no-frills kind of flick, you still need to show artistry and I just didn't see much here.

Don't get me wrong, some of it was hysterical. Absolutely hysterical. But the execution was really lacking on the technical side. This makes your film hard to score for me because I appreciated the humor value, but how can I reward that other than in screenplay because almost all other elements were average...

You had one of the funniest pieces but one of the more technically deficient as well.

Keep up the good work!

Are the users of this site completely on crack!? To be completely honest, I didn't figure this film would be one of the winners, seeing as it came just so far out of left field, but come on now: 49th out of 58! What the hell!

Sure, this film wasn't the most polished, but it was a fun film to watch, certainly much more fun and creative than some of the others that I checked out on this site. I don't know, maybe this forum is all about cliques, or maybe some of you just need to remove the corncobs from out of your asses and grow a sense of humor, but to rank this film among the bottom dredges of the festival, that's bullshit. I think you all need to seriously spend a little less time patting your buddy on the back, and a little more time re-evaluating what good filmmaking really is.

I was hoping this was higher!

Jack Daniel Stanley
02-28-2006, 02:43 PM
but come on now: 49th out of 58! What the hell! one thing to consider is the narrow margin between most of the final scores.
They usually have a point 1 or less than point 1 gap -- lots of them are as close as a thousandth of a point!

if you rounded it would look more like this:
1 1st
6 tied for 2nd
10 tied for 3rd
27 tied for 4th
13 tied for 5th
1 6th

that's 40 films out of 58 right in the middle!

so it might not mean that DVXuser members or retarded ... or that Grean Means Go was not a fine film. But that it was a very tough call between 39 other films for the 4th or 5th place spot.

I'm gonna post my adjusted voting sheet in the "And the Winners Are" thread

I think that baddassmofro has been a pretty supportive guy -- my point was more that there were a few films that bubbled up as Barry puts it but that there were lots of good films, Green Means Go, being one of them and one of my favorites, and when it comes down to thousandth of a point being the distinguishing factor, a lot of elements can come into play, and not scoring higher doesn't mean that a film is a worthless pile of poo. In fact it could be a quite good pile of poo (like GReen Means Go) and not stack up.

but having said that -- I would be pissed if my film or a film I just adored got 48th place.

I had a similar reaction when the Zombie flick about the little girl and her zombie didn't crack the top 10 on the last contest. That was one hilarious F'in movie. ;)

seems like that's exactly what you did ... so which is it?

maybe this forum is all about cliques, or maybe some of you just need to remove the corncobs from out of your asses

maybe you should stop using maybe's and commit to view point

when I kind of deflected blame away from you in my last post, it was because I hadn't read your post in a while, but now that I look at it again, what you said is pretty clear and it does suck.

I agree that this film was technically better put together than some films that ranked higher than it -- even better acted with a better script and we all concur on the entertainment value -- but ... you can say that without s h i t t i n g on the rest of us.

Do you think maybe ... just MAYBE ... this film might have ranked a little lower due to content. Not saying I agree with that, but its a common phenomenon not particular to this forum. I would have loved it if SouthPark Bigger Longer Uncut had recieved an oscar nod for something other than best song ... but not in our lifetimes. Same was true in Ancient Greece, the low comedies or Satyr Plays were not seen as as important as the Tragedies - the centerpieces of the festival, even though they were some of the raunchiest funniest things ever.

I agree with statement # 1.

Statement # 2 on the other hand...
The creativity is there on GMG, there is no question of that. Sure it's fart jokes, but they work and the GMG folks made them work with a nasty style. There were several areas of the film to be judged. There are several people who when the distance on their films and the quality of their work really shows. I hope that many are on the site to get the most out of their DVX100s. This technical learning came through in many of the films, but IMO, not in GMG. It had the writing and the acting to make me laugh. The tech side of the film was a little too green. GMG folks will get better in time, no doubt. They were in my top 10, but only for the writing and acting.

Remember that "Good filmmaking" encompases all aspects of film.

I would venture to say that some of the "corn in the ass" folks feel the same way.

I here ya -- you should drop by the "Things Human Beings Can Type" store and pick yourself up a "(" a ")" and a "j" along with a "k".

Now you have to assemble them yourself, and i don't have time to go into the details, but once they are all together they look like this "(jk)"

You can just stick that on the end of sentences and then people will know you are joking :)

I did see what you said, everythings good here, man. I hope you guys saw the posts that I continually made throughout this thread. I don't mind constructive criticism I embrace it! I took eveything that you guys said and I am going to apply it to the next film we make. No hard feelings. I am glad that you liked the acting. It means a lot to me that people recognize our actors and their abilities, considering that every film we make they keep coming out and working for free. They are some troopers. But don't think that the comments bother me, and do note that I appreciate the good ones as well!
