Yeah, this seemed like the first act in a full-length. Always leave 'em wanting more!

Great actors (especially the one eye), cool look & story. A couple of tiny negatives but nothing worth mentioning. You'll be getting some high marks from me for sure.

Spiderman,

This flatout rocked and has just taken over the NUMBER ONE postion as my favorite.

Your style is insane, the story twisted and dark... Right up my alley.
Whovever that actor was that played the guy with one eye, he's fantastic, perfect for the role.
Very intense imagery and cinematography, almost a "se7en" like feel to it. The shot of the body burning was awesome.
The dialogue was great as well.

It almost felt like a really long trailer for a feature. Good job, man. Nothing but high marks from me.:) :D

spidey

why did you choose to go with so many different color treatments?

spidey

Spidey is a god to us. CPU is the best thing in this contest. Bow down to Spidey.

SPidey - please, some director's comments.

A) Where'd you get actors from that were actually good?
(personal note) These guys show the difference between 'behaving' and 'acting'... nothing they do seems fake in any way. Great work!

"both of them are my best friends. we work together and I know how to write characters for them that they would like to play..... I think lol"

B) The opening shots in the rain.. how'd you do that??

"Sophia Martinez our production designer was good rain wrangler. Jut two water hoses. and back lighting it."

C) Congrats on the bitchen dialogue... very quotable.

"Well i Had the idea at first and the dialouge was there but matt and ben ( the two actors) I told them to have free will to modify it to were they felt comfortable saying those lines. I think its important to have both them work on it since they had to say it. and Ben, Ben is awesome."

D) I would greenlight this in a heartbeat ... You could re-do this with a little more budget and really make a classic short film of it ... even a feature maybe ... what are you plans with it??

"i've always wanted to make a longer verison of the in fact i had these character in this one idea but would be able to do it for this competetion. I would like to make a feature if money was there."

My only comment was that the WMV compression wasn't kind to the image... I really like to see some stills or something in full res. Maybe post some breakdowns and hi-res stills for our enjoyment.

"I'll try to get some on line soon :)"

why did you choose to go with so many different color treatments?

Depends where now on the green screen stuff i was going for strange look I want to show a mucky place they eat at and then they work of this overly clean looking place.

If you notice they get what they want from the mucky aweful place but the place that represents it self so perfectly they get nothing.

It's a dirty future.

now i lit the bar scene with greens and the gel I like to call Urine. I wanted it to be Like the go this place that doesnt look great at all a poohole if you will. so that where came from.

Now Ryan bathroom and home light is very dark. we dont really know where he lives.

Barts home life feel more depressing like people are trying to get to him.

Now the industrial park, well it over head lights were orangish red so i try to match it but more yellow green it was easier to look at.

CC was by me I thought some thing would look very interesting this way.

My favorite scene is the one where the first cyborg get it. it was fun to light but were out there and the equipment was freezing. and it was like 11pm.

hope this is helpful.

I'm glad to hear from you :)

This took me by surprise. I don't know what I was expecting but... I really liked it. For me there was a definite noir feel coupled with desperation and hopelessness. I think you pulled off what you were going for. It almost came off to me as a long trailer for a bigger project, which I might say, I'd like to see. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/images/smilies/beer.gif Job well done.

your play on colors works well. it is gritty and captures the mood of the environments. juxtaposing so many color treatments within a narrative is not easy. and you pull it off.. thumbs up. i have been through 2/3 of the films an you are def in the top 5. it must be great having best friends who are also good actors. best of luck.

Some overhead shots of the main character shooting himself up reminded me of Requium for a Dream. They looked semi-fisheye. Also, did you speed it up a little. Maybe I just remember it like that because of the jump-cuts. Nice ass on that robot chick, BTW.

spidey
02-17-2006, 01:41 PM

Ok, this was just weird. I felt the story was really, really shallow, and even the twist with him killing the girl was obvious. I also really did not like the amount of cursing. I mean, a small amount isn't horrid, but you have to write dialogue, not just let people swear at each other. So, I'd try to give more thought to the script and dialogue next time, and make every word mean something. I really liked the look, it was very unique. Good job!

Spidey,

Excellent film.

It reminded me a lot of Bladerunner which happens to be one of my all time favorite films. The atmosphere had an acidic and unpleasant feel to it, perfect for the story. The acting was first class and the world you created was very believable.

I thought the horror the character felt as he realized what he did at the end of the film was conveyed well and gave me good closure.

Editing was creative and seamless to me. This is in my top 5 so far.

Good work.

The acting was first rate. Dialog was sharp and Tarantino-esq in that kind of hype-fast back and forth bouncing off of each other's conversation sort of way.

The color in the scene where they're talking about the big gun was really distracting to me. It looked kind of like an emboss effect turned all the way up. Aside from that scene I think your color pallet was very well thought-out and well executed.

spidey
02-17-2006, 03:26 PM
thanks buddy. Yeah I did so color test before that worked better and they were LOST! so i had to like create close enough to it on the day it was dued. but im glad you enjoyed the acting and enjoyed the film.

I liked the gritty, dark atmosphere. Acting was good and story, while leaving me thinking that I only got to see part of it, held my interest. The movie did remind of Blade Runner, which is a great accomplishment in its own right.

Now, I had two concerns with it. First is CC - the scene in the bar and the scene where the guy wakes up from a nightmare looked plain ugly to me. It would have looked tons better if you used real color lighting: lit the bar green, put a blue lamp by the bed etc. (and btw it would have also looked more BR'ish this way).

My other concern is not really a movie's problem. It's just that I don't get why Ryan would work with Bart if the dude is a complete psycho. But that's just me... I could never understand people who continue working for the bosses they hate...

spidey
02-17-2006, 03:40 PM
yeah. one idea i heard from my brother was. "god they hate one another but they joke around with one another." I capture alot of relationships like that to him he said. Like they hate then love then hate then they are ok then...... well who knows :-p

Spidey,
a few quick questions...

What were your in camera settings?

Did you use any filters and/or a mattebox?

WHat program did you use for color correction?

spidey
02-17-2006, 04:03 PM
lets see. I know i change some thing but i usually keep my master ped at around -10 and -6 i love contrast.

I didnt have a mattebox and i had uv filter on.

I used fcp4.5 hd. I used the system in there i love the three way!

Some of my favorite dialogue so far. The look of those first few scenes reminded me of Mamoru Oshii's Avalon. I was digging it. It's one of the more unique style-wise. When you making Part II? :)

Thanks for responding to my questions this afternoon ...

Did you use Mike Dawson's adapter for this at all?

It's really good directing. The performances are such good examples of people "Behaving" like other people, instead of acting and reading lines. It seems that you really get that.

From the first second on, I was like "This V.O. kinda sucks.." but then I grew to like the delivery, it seems to be sort of purposefully loose and in-character ,, like the VO character doesn't really think too highly of his life or of the story. That aspect really worked for me. And of course the guy with the missing eye is just a bad-ass. The only other really cool character in this whole fest is the "Rodriguez" characater from Briceman's piece. But he's too good for everybody else in that piece so it's kind of awkward.. In yours, everything gels. Good work.

You know .. I bet you could take out your ending and your piece would still work. The success of it is more in the feeling than anything else.

You are one nihilist mother f**ker, keep up the good work. Please show me any scripts you have in the future. I'd love to read them.

I'm lazy so I'll post some other comments after I watch it again...

yes i used the Mike dawson adaptor it was awesome.

I wanted them to fight it out almost in fact onf of those takes we thought matt was mad for real cause he fell and hit his head on the columns. he was steamed but he was cool.

The v.o. I wanted to make you feel him a he thinks he agood but look at his own surroundings. he like a rookie who thinks hes a pro. lives in a shitty dark place and does drugs. i think he played it well both v.o. I just kept saying "can you say it more like edward norton did in fight club?" i like vo's when they are done well.

Loved the highly stylized imagery and editing. Acting was top notch and believeable. My only criticism was the excessive language. Always strikes me as lazy acting (or writing?). Nevertheless, a very well executed film. Gotta love android flicks.

janzie
02-17-2006, 07:01 PM
that took me by surprise, because i expected a "robot in the living room"-movie and saw one of my favorites...i really dig the editing style (and CC)...first thing that came to my mind was "domino", and i mean that in a good way

i liked the characters, story was cool, but the editing really did it for me

...and i wouldnīt worry about the language-it worked well for me (but iīm european ;-) )

cool flick

spidey
02-17-2006, 07:17 PM

just remebered something:

the slide-and-shoot shot was one of the coolest things iīve seen recently...did you come up with that ?

spidey
02-17-2006, 08:08 PM
i came up with it on the spot with matt. the floor was complete hardwood and old. and it was smoooooth. so i was like lets get it. so we shot it that way. i think it adds to the cockiness to the character. then he finds out he messed up.

Impressive.
I hate to admit - never having seen any of your work, I didn't think I was going to see something at this level -

Spidey...

There are twenty-six letter keys on my keyboard...
there is also a space bar and an enter button.
I am fumbling around right now, trying to find the right combination of keystrokes to form a written message that would, in turn, convey even a fraction of the respect that I have for you right now.

I just saw your film.
Holy poo poo, my man.
I am a writer who is now at a loss for words.

You just shot a hole in one IMO.
Technically everything clicked (hell, I didn't even notice most of the shots themselves.)
You really created a fascinating world and brought it to life.

As of right now, you are my favorite to win.

Too many comments. I'm getting lazy at this point as I am trying to give comments/criticism on all the shorts, so forgive me if I repeat a lot of things that have already been mentioned.

I thought this was a really slick, stylized piece. Reminded me of Darren Aronofsky's work. Loved the constant variations in color tinting. I also really liked the makeup work on Bart. Gave the character a lot of depth. Also helped that he was an awesome actor.

I guess my only real criticism was that it was a really highly compressed WMV. Would like to see it again at a better quality.

Hey Angrynerdrock07, I understand commenting and watching alot of films. whooo- I'm almost done myself. You're the second to mention Darren Aronofsky.

Also The make up design was a personal thing I always wanted to do. I drew it out. then bought all the make up needed then gave it to my Make-up Artist, Joe Lissi, and he tested it out for a while then got it right.

A funny thing about make was Ben Hated contacts. I had to teach him how to wear them. eventually he got used to putting them in and he wore them all day so he could used to be before he had make up on him. he had to deal with DOP issues but I'm glad i was trying to get him used to the one eye vision for the role ahead of time instead of on the day.

Yes ben is awesome.

Hey Jeremy!

Just started watching the shorts. Watched yours first. Overall, very nice job. Oddly, it was exactly what I expected from you...which is good!

The two biggest drawbacks for me were:
1) lack of consitency in color correction. It lessened my believability in the world you created because it didn't have a specific look for each region or a look in general to unify it.
2) A little shoddy on the acting. A tad bit been there, done that in their deliveries and choices.

I LOVED the world you created. I believed it totally. The only thing that kept pulling me out of if was the lask of consistency as I said above. I felt like it was a self-contained piece, which is good. Ended nicely, very nicely.

Overall, I think you did a great job. Congrats! Nice movie!

Robert

Jack Daniel Stanley
02-18-2006, 12:26 PM
ok this kicked ass

it really created a believable, consistant, dark, scary, evocative world that seemd ... well ... real!

And that's a gigantic accomplishment at any level but on what was presumably a shoe string budget, even more so.

I loved the look and feel of this and the acting was just top notch.

I think it should be recognized that not only did you do an above par job, you picked something very difficult to pull off. It's one thing to create a consistent believable world that's cheezy and fun, but to do one that is rooted so much in the darker side of the id (and again with little resources) well its just plain harder -- it demands an authenticity and unflinching honesty both behind an infront of the camer -- in otherwords, something like NARC requires a little more digging than say Men in Black -- so when comparing films in this "competition" I just think it should be pointed out that not only is this in my top very few films, its a three pointer as a opposed to a layup. Very impressive.

Now forget all that -- I just like watchiing it. The missing eye and scar were a great detail. Good foils in the hard seasoned older cop and younger careless cop. Nice flow, building tension, great composition.

Only criticisms are small. Comb through the gray in the actors hair so it looks like it goes to the roots. The only CC that bothered me was in the chinese restaurant and it could be the compression -- there were hard levels in the diffusion - instea of fading from white to sepia to black seemlessly the gradation had hard edges like looking at a topographical map - but you pulled off a Blade Runner feel -- damn, lastly then end complication seemed a little rushed - I know that a film wants to stay slightly ahead of the audience, but that arose and was over so quickly that it felt abrupt, which pointed out that the complication or twist wasn't overly sophisticated -- not a big deal and not sure if even problematic (the twist or plot complication at end), just the abaruptness of its introduction and resolution at the end of the film made it seem a little less fullfilling than the rest of the film -- it still worked -- not saying this was one of those movies that just ends and you're like ... ok why did I watch that - what was the event - that structure felt complete here (the event) just a tad rushed.

Ok so I'me verbose and it might seem like those criticisms are a big deal to me but they are not -- its a kickass film , and those were the only nits I could pick.

Q: where can I see more of your stuff - do you have stuff online or DVD I can order?

Jack.

You should have heard the orginal version. It wasn't like we really wanted it to get that raw, it just sort of developed that way. The story kinds of lends itself to it.

We even started a thread on the rating issue because of our concern of the language.

Well done. One of the top two shorts in the fest. A more challenging short than most, but you really rose to those challenges: performances were authentic and interesting, great shots and well edited. A real story. And visually innovative. Congrats.

Im blinded by the silicon implant frames!!!
I loved the color changes but the style changes from clear to almost cartooned bothered me. It makes it feel like you are missing something you might want to see in the background or something. The cast was well done I thought. Very natural dialog but I hated the amount of Voice ever. Just a tad here and there would have worked better I think. I couldnt hear some of it either. I really liked the skid he did right before he shot her. That edit was tight. The ending failed for me I thought. Maybe if he just sat up and said "oh sh!t, the bullet in her head", and then the line "did I tell you we are fcked" or what ever it was might be a little stronger? Just a thought.
Good job on this dude, I enjoyed it.

Congrats! Nice movie!

Robert

Spidey,

Great short. Edgy (I hate that word, but using it in relation to your entry redeems it somewhat). I wanted more.

Great script - beginning, middle and end.

Great relationship between actors (love/hate dynamic, all that jazz).

Really, really good.

Thanks for letting us see it.

Probably the age thing for me, and the stuff you post, usually a lot of joking around

- I guess I have to get used to the youngsters whipping me talent-wise.

Like I said - it was a bad assumption on my part.
I just never expected the same guy that gave me the phrase "Butt Water" came out of the gates swinging like that....You've got my respect.
Nice work.

I like your tone, I like the way the VO interplays with the dialogue. I enjoy most Sci-Fi that makes the world feel lived in, taken for granted, a place where regular, sometimes sub-regular, guys live. It becomes about how humans adapt to wild changes, and yet remain just as messed up as ever.

Now and then, the actors had a bit too much "glow" around them, I assume from background replacement, and that damaged the reality you'd established. Also, the V.O. sounded quite tinny and hallow compared to the other dialogue, almost as though it were recorded on a computer desktop microphone. (I mention this because I did that, and it went badly).

My largest critique, however, would be that the movie doesn't establish its dilemna until it's almost over. The actual problem happens, is solved, and then UN-solved, in less than the last third. What happens is great, but it doesn't get fair chance to happen. Too much time is spent on setting up the world, which would be better set up DURING the dilemna. It would be much more exciting to have the two leads fight over an off-color comment about an ex-wife WHILE going to kill the metal hooker to cover up a crime.

Great movie, just needs a little restructuring to make it really compelling. Fun characters. I love seeing a filmmaker having fun onscreen. It's infectious. :)

This would be a really good short bit of a longer 'compilation' movie .. like a 'Heavy Metal' type thing, where you had numerous short stories about the future.

That's the way I see this film fitting in the best.

Spidey, any plans for a longer script? It would interesting to see.

You should seriously re-edit this thing a bit. Just tool around with and see what other places it might go, just to see. You never know what you could come up with.

You could win... what will do with the camera?? (jarred's DVX)

Awsome! My favourite so far by a long, long way. Oustanding in every area. The CC worked fine for me. The best thing about it was the two main actors and the beleivable dialogue, really brought the film to life and sucked me into their world. One example was when the guy said something like 'do you know any human that could have done this?' very natural and well executed. Stunning!

Some overhead shots of the main character shooting himself up reminded me of Requium for a Dream. They looked semi-fisheye. Also, did you speed it up a little. Maybe I just remember it like that because of the jump-cuts. Nice ass on that robot chick, BTW.

Something that struck me...

Title sequence was too quick and confusing. Could'nt read all the names and could'nt figure out the title was CPU ....it just went away too quick for me. It was a beautiful sequence though and I loved the numbers 10101010101010101010!

I might be in the minority here, so take my criticisms for what they're worth ;)

I liked your use of color, but at times it really felt forced, gimmicy or like you were covering imperfections. The overall gritty look was good, but the color just went overboard for me at times.

You seemed to have some sound issues... not a lot, but at times the dialogue of the characters was hard to hear. Especially right in the middle (at about 3:25).

Some of the editing felt a bit awkward... and again, like you were covering up for lack of something else (maybe not enough coverage?).

Framing and cinematography were mostly good, though there were spots I couldn't quite tell if the shot being out of focus was intentional.

You did a good job with locations and practical effects. Some of the greenscreen and CGI (spaceship near 5:18) weren't so hot.

I didn't really feel drawn into the STORY... it kinda just went along for me. I didnt' feel it was boring, but I didn't really get into it either and I can't exactly put my finger on why. I also hated the end... it just felt cut-off to me, like you ran out of time.

Thanks for sharing your film -- it was visually different than everything else in the fest and while I didn't get into it all that much, it was intesting to look at the things you did to bring the whole thing to a completed piece.

Spidey, I'm more than amazed. This has become an INSANELY tight contest, with all of the top entries (in my book) being the best in their game on different levels.

Yours had a VERY dark, Sin City feel to it. Yours and jdanstan's also had very similar vibes, except his was more light hearted comic book, and yours was dark graphic novel.

The make up FX were beautiful ... the best in the fest, bar none. Too bad there's not an award for it ... you'd take the cake, in my opinion.

The cinematography was great, lighting, story, dialogue, acting, etc. I'm sure if I really looked I could try & nit pick this thing to death ... like any movie, if you look hard enough you can find SOMETHING to gripe about. But nothing stands out to me to comment on.

One of my favorites ... and the funny thing is, I'm getting REAL sick of saying that ... meaning there have been at least 7-10 films I want to call my favorites, all completley different in their own way.

Excellent, excellent job. Didn't know you much, so there was nothing to tell me I didn't think you could do this, but wow ... I had no idea you could do this.

So are you in Hong Kong or NC? Where'd you film?

Norm Sanders
02-19-2006, 04:36 PM
Okay, I just saw a post above that questioned focus/framing a little. Now that I think of it, that probably popped into my mind as well, but this was such a messy, gritty film (in a good, unique way), that it almost felt purposeful and artistic.

Upon watching again I feel I should submit another review. I thought the style was cool (gritty, flashy), but I could never take the dialogue or story seriously. It was written almost too natural. Could just be me. I did like your CC, but felt the subjects were too washed out sometimes. This is for sure a low level story about the dark side of life. It depicts that very well, and that is an accomplishment in and of itself. I paid a closer attention to the score and sound mix this time too and you did a good job in both respects. The ending was pretty abrupt for me, but given 6 min. I understand. Overall it's a well done piece. I don't enjoy it when I watch it, but I respect the skill and talent you have in creating it. Well done.

Yeah... most of the time that's true... but I couldn't take the character's seriously (which I felt I should have).

I don't know if anyone else on this forum is or was a GWAR fan, but everytime I watch this film, the protag's voice over reminds me of the song "Obliteration of Flab Quarv 7."

This is the track for the final sequence in the film.

Thanks! Great work on the film...you should be really proud. No, no problem at all about it - if the music was any louder it would be overpowering, it was well mixed. :) I would love to collaborate with you guys on another project.

Hey man! Just got a chance to see yours!

I loved it! I think your only weakness was the monologue being too low. What type of mic did you use?

Everything else was top notch, the story, the atmosphere, the cinematography... it was all great!

I don't know if this has been asked already, but what was the ballpark figure of your budget? It looks like you went all out for this piece.

Excellent work man! I enjoyed this one a lot

You and other have mention imagery simularities to David Fincher Ridley Scott and Tony Scott. I actually did draw on those as inspriations.

David Fincher: (se7en) Fincher is my favorite american director. I love all his films (I enjoyed panic room but it not something would watch again and again.) His compsitions and story line are what i enjoy about his movies.

Ridley Scott: (Alien, Blade Runner) I didnt even watch Blade runner before i started shoot but I watched all the Aliens films. I was studying his composition and his pacing. Now i knew i could do tthat in 6 mins but i study his approached to acting and justy let it flowed. If i saw somethign was aproblem I stepped in to tell them.

Tony Scott: (Man on Fire and Domino) The visual style and editing was awesome and the use of color. I loved MOF.

My other influences were Chan Wook Park (OLDBOY, Sympathy for mr. Vengence and JSA) the structure the art to film, imagery, cinematography and character development was awesome. He's my favorite director.

Those are my major influences.

Oh man! Seriously this is one of those kind of movies that ticks me off in a way. This is SO my style of movie but then there's a couple aspects to it that turn me off to it overall and taint my high praise. But you deserve high praise for your efforts here.

Visuals. Top Notch. What the hell else can I say? I sure everyone is raving about it here and I am not the first poster by far, so I will just say I loved it! Very "Domino" to me, and I LOVE that. Great lighting, great work with the camera. Can't say enough. It helpde bring me into that world and it felt real. Great work on most of the effects as well!

I think one of the leads (scarface we'll call him) did a great job, the other I felt had a lot to match up to and he didn't pull it off. I also felt his voiceover was weak which leads to ... audio. The audio was all over the place here. One second I could hear what someone was saying, the next I had to reach over to the volume knob, and then it got loud again. Really inconsistent. This didn't hurt you too too much, and I am sure you just ran out of time for submitting to the movie and you'll be able to fix it rather easily.

Also one of my main beefs, I know its cool to have swearing in a gritty, dark movie. But this just seemed like swearing for the sake of it, and I didn't buy it. There isn't a swearing award here but you would have won, hands down. Even tough guys have more to say than "f*ck". I'm not a prude, I just like hearing characters convey their feelings and for me this style of dialogue is a cheap way out of any real creativity. This was the weakest aspect of your film to me.

So........ you're a visual genius. But a visual genius who needs more practice with audio and screenwriting, and hey, that ain't too shabby! Nice work man! Tony Scott would be proud, we just gotta get you a hand crank!

couple more comments after reading through everyone's posts:

i am all for swearing when its believeable/real. tarantino is believeable to me in that regards. i talk like he writes and so do my friends. but i think you hit the nail on the head for me when you said you let the actors run with the dialogue. i feel you should have tightened up a bit as a director because it shows lack of understanding and/or comprehension on the actors as far as the dialogue/script. when i said i see this as a weakness i didnt mean because its offensive (i dont offend easy) i mean it hurts your show because it brings it down a huge level because of the seemingly lack of writing.

another style similarity i noticed someone else mention was "avalon"! right on! especially during the food scene towards the beginning, very nice there (see that movie if you havent). was the restaurant a floating style one like in "fifth element"? i noticed the background moving independently of the foreground, just wondering if maybe you cut out some sky-food vehicle scene or something to meet time.

SFX-wise, when they are typing on the laptop, i didnt understand the effect you were going for there with the screen as its obviously a laptop and the image overlay is too big. just wondering if thats supposed to be a hologram or something, did you try erasing out the real laptop screen from behind it and it just didnt work?

thanks ahead of time for your answers!

spidey...

I have to say overall you did a great job.I love the way you color corrected the bar scene that was pure genius! the way you did that green halo thing was amazing, but I do have to say the rest of the movies color was a little off for my taste.
if your interested I have a movie you should check out for some ideas...try looking at "....... ...." You shoud get some really awesome directorial and color ideas from that one .I found this movie riveting and moving all at the same time.....especially the beer drop...... talk about art!

I also found the language in the movie fitting; in fact, I believe it could have used even more cussing.....then It would have felt like the real world.have you ever heard real cops speak these days? it horrible! of course it will worsen in the future so i liked the way you depicted it. thats the way I see it being... if not more!. Nice directorial decision I must say.
The way you adapted the script to the characters was also just amazing. I was literally drawn to it.... you had me at F*ck you.

The gripe I had about the dialogue though is that you didnt have enough studders and pauses between words. If you just made it stumble out a little bit more you would have been golden.

but like I said earlier the movie rocks my socks, and so does your crew.they did an amazing job, and honestly you are my favorite to win.... plus the two hotties you have in the lead roles dosnt hurt either.

good luck and god speed

Man, it's late and I don't think I can face 150+ comments before I respond here, so please forgive me if I repeat or anything.

I've just got two words, really.

Bad. Ass.

Okay, maybe I can do three.

F@!$ing bad ass.

I loved the way this looked. I loved the dialogue. I loved the acting. I loved that you gave me a POV character who I simultaneously thought was a dick and still kinda rooted for 'cause he seemed like kind of a dick because he's weak and fallible and just not a very good guy, not because he's actually malicious. I loved that you managed to make me buy totally into the world you created without beating me over the head with futuristic gadgets. I loved that this was a world and a plot I have no trouble believing will eventually happen givne the state of our society now.

The only criticisms I have, and they're minor, are these: First, while I enjoyed the story, it didn't smack of a whole new concept. I'm sure you know Blade Runner and similar, so that's no surprise. This isn't so much criticism in the sense of "this is bad", more of a "maybe this could be better if." You've got a damn fine movie here, but if I saw it in the theatre (and I'd love to) I might wonder if Ridley Scott was getting royalties. Second, the end: I appreciate the suddenness, I enjoyed it, but I think stopping outright there jarred me a little too much. I don't think I wanted more story or more dialogue, I think all I wanted was an ending credits sequence. Just to let me mentally cool down. We always have to make choices with time, of course.

So, you know, A+ work, man, I'm really impressed.

WEASLEY AND RASPY WHICH I REALLY LIKED KINDA LIKE IGGY POPISH, BUT THEN IT CHANGED TO A HIGHER PITCH NORMAL.(i too had a problem with my voice) but then the other character started to shine good chemistry i like. Sorry if this is a repeater - too much to read in this thread.

You're obviously quite talented - good work!

The acting made the short.

The color correcting was over-done.

I agree with one of the first comments that said the story was shallow. The story wasn't very engaging, so it was hard for my mind to keep following what was going on. It felt like you were focusing more on making the short look good than to tell an engaging story.

Makeup/costuming/sets/other visual stylings were very good.

Cinematography was awesome - this is definitely, definitely you're strong point.

Did anyone mention this looked like BLADE RUNNER??? :) Just kidding - never seen it.

You did a good job of making the short "feel" exciting, but then there wasn't much substance to back it up. Maybe you could focus more on the story next time. If you had done that, I think you would've had this one nailed.

Good job -

Basically,
I'm defending my friend against, what seems to be a sarcastic shot a him and the rest of us over here.
I was disapointed with what happened to you. I don't (and still don't) know the facts. I do know that when I went to the link for CPU to continue reading the words of the voters, I saw your post and suddenly changed my mind about you. Your sarcasm pushed me into the tread in a negative way. It also said to me that you have some anger that you don't know what to do with, so you lashed out at the one who beat you. We played it by the rules. Not all Americans are what you think.
You seem to be defending yourself against all kinds of attacks today. I didn't want to be one of them. Sorry. I hope to meet you on another playing field again. You were quite worthy.
The question posed to you is - How did you think Spidey would react and why?

hey hey Matthew. You are absolutely wrong with me.

No sarcasm here. really.

I have Spidey in the msn and i talk with him sometimes. I truly loved his film long before you guys won. We allready spoke about his wonderfull style.

Dont get offended with the picture. It doesnt have anything in common with the electoral votes. You see, i was searching for a "thumbs up" picture to include in the post. So i went google, and Bush appeared as the 2nd picture so i though it would be funny to have the president congratulating you guys. Nothing more than that.

I trully dont have any anger. The fact that i was out of the contest doesnt mean in any case you dont deserve the prize. Why should i think that? Even not being DQ i dont know if we even had the chance to get to the 10 top list.

Oh, you were in the top 10, no question. I have no problem telling you that. I was very impressed with your work. You have technique, style, and a damn good eye. Your story telling abilities are very sharp. Your choise of music was fantastic. Your film truely speaks for itself. "Quality" is the word that comes to mind.

As far as Spidey goes, he's my employee and my friend. I will always jump to his defense first and ask questions later. That's the "Pirate Code"

I'm just now giving my feedback. When I first saw this one before the winners were announced it definitely left a solid impression with me. Especially the boobies! Seriously, though, it's a great short. Awesome make-up and special effects. The lighting is also very well done. Thanks again for this short film. Can't wait to see what you do next.
