I expect to be impressed with this movie. I hope Mel doesn't blow it, not that he would. The subject matter is very interesting and ancient. It can either really hit the mark or really miss it. The trailer looks very cool.

If it doesn't work, here's to Mel for taking the risk.

here's to Mel for just doing what he loves.

I think he's a great entertainer. He's not pretentious I dont think. He wants to impress his audience. it's just that religion is a sensitive topic for everyone and the artistry in PASSION was overlooked simply because it was about Jesus. IMHO.

Mel is one of the great non thinker movie makers.

Have you guys seen "THE FRAME!?"

I'm not up on posting pics or anything, but if you take the original theatrical apocalypto trailer -- I was shown the apple.com/trailers one, I'm pretty sure it's the same one you have up there -- and you look at the one of the last big montage of crazy running through the woods, and look at that one bit near the end with the mayan natives covered in white powder. Go frame by frame, and there is DEFINITELY ONE frame of Mel Gibson with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, a HUGE beard, and he;s leaning on one of those powdered guys. ONE frame.
Amazing.

Yes. The guy is nuts. We should all make fun of him and we do --
BUT! If any of us had done that we would all be laughing our asses off! C'mon, It's so good.

People are nuts.

I would have to say this, then bail from this thread;

Using God to make money is ass. Trying to relay ones love for his creator in film form is not.

There is more out there and I think Mel is searching. That searching carries over to Apocalypto.

A brave, non-conventional move in times like these. I'm not a big Mel fan, but he's got nuts, I don't see him as nuts.

I agree that the Passion nails are silly.

True, but when one truly belives they had a conversation, ie: god spoke to them and he spoke back, and god told them to make the Passion (and possibly sell Passion nail spike necklaces), they're freaking nuts. Its hard for ME to look at Mel and not think he's off his rocker.

Before we're done here, can we all admit that the frame is hilarious? Can we put our preconceived notion of Hamlet Riggs to bed for second?
