Anyone know of a good source to purchase long component cables to use for connecting the HVX to a monitor using the component out

I don't know what actually are "good prices" for component cable, but I just bought a 50 feet component cable from stevenson technical services inc. (stsi.com) for 32.99$ They have an ebay store...they also have a cheaper cable: 50 feet, for 19.99$. Hope that helps.

I noticed that the component cable that comes with the HVX is very short. Wouldn't you need a component cable that has rca type connectors AND that multi pin connector that attaches to the HVX200? I don't think that you can buy just any component cable. The HVX200 component cable is unique. Can anyone confirm this?

No you wouldn't because I understand the HVX comes equipped with an adapter for that mini plug, also known as the D4 output. The adapter turns it into 3 RCA type connectors which you should be able to connect with any kind of RCA wire.

So why the D4 connector? Takes a lot less space on the camera surface than three RCA connectors...

If you want to extend the length of the component output, you would need a female on one end and a male on the other for the component cables.

Here you go, you'll need three of these....

Also, if you just want to replace the cable with a longer one, the HVX D4 component cable is compatible with the one shipped by JVC for the HD1/HD10 and also with the one shipped by Canon for the XLH1. I think the Canon cable is a good three feet longer.

... and if you intend this cable to carry a signal you're going to record, step up to the more expensive silver core cables. Analog does funny things when it gets interference. But I somehow doubt this is the case since the component signal coming out of the HVX is probably inherently garbage.
