ive seen the wolves sample, the audi car sample, and the waterfall sample...question is are all those features just as clear and just as good if it were shot in SD?
[quote]and also (this is a newbie question) can i shoot in 720P on regular mini-dv tapes or will i have to buy the expensive DVCPRO HD tapes (medium or large)?

You cannot record HD onto tape on the HVX. If you want to record HD, look into either P2 cards, the Cineporter, Firestore, or tether the camera to a laptop.
I can't help but add at the end that being a newbie doesn't mean you can't search. This is basic information about the camera. I'm not trying to be rude...just trying to help

No, of course not. SD is standard-def, with 1/2 to 1/4 as many pixels. The whole point of HD is for additional clarity! :) In SD mode you could get good-looking footage, but nowhere near as crisp and clear as if it was shot in HD.

The HVX doesn't use any type of tape for HD, it uses the P2 cards instead.
