I've got a dolly shot where the camera guy passes in front of a mirror (d'oh!), and I need to get rid of it. I'm using a mask to blur out only the mirror, and I can track the edge of the mirror well, but how can I combine the mask with the tracking?

Or am I going about this the wrong way? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think you can track mask points in AE. You may need to create null and parent to that, then track your mask layer. I believe this is a workaround, but I haven't done any tracking in a while.

oneinfinateloop's suggestion should work. Just parent the mask to a NAL and track that layer.

If the mirror is rectangular, you can also use the corner pin tracking option (under Track type in the tracker controls). Makes it simple to track perspective shifts etc. of rectangular shapes (e.g. a computer screen, etc.).

Otherwise, just apply the tracking data to a null as everyone else has suggested.

Ditto. I have used the null tracking method and it worked wonderfully. The corner pin tracking also works well!

If you are going through the trouble of tracking and then masking for blurring, why blur? I would think you would have better results bringing in a seperate element for the mirror, and using your track info/corner pinning to use it. Then you have the option of putting whatever you want there.
