oh btw for the shot i have in mind i was thinking of a titles sequence in a shower where he takes soap and the credit is behind the soap, towle or shampoo or showercurtain...but it appears as the soap curtain ect is being moved.

Same way that hedgehogs play leapfrog: "Very carefully".

Rotoscoping (frame by frame animation/painting) is comon practice for this sort of stuff.

But for what you described it shouldn't be that hard since the edges of your objects are sharp and if you pull the object out of the way smooth and straight enough this can be accomplished with a simple bezier mask ( in Vegas)

you can do that effect with Boris Red for sure (as I have done it) and i think maybe Combustion/or AE

is this a case for rotoscoping..or is it creating masks? I'm thinking you could do it with masks.

creating the mask would be easier because it's just 1 or two lines behind the object... so you just need that small portion blocked out

hey there

the best method would be as the previous posts suggest - rotoscoping. this isnt as bad as it sounds, though it can be tedious if you want things passing behind lots of things.

id recommend planning your shoot to include some blue/green screen that will aid lifting a matte, enabling easy insertion of titles etc.

Combustion is probably your best bet (or equivelant) version 4 has a bery cool and easy to use new masking system called b-splines. you create a simple mask/garbage matte and can easily refine it frame by frame as you prgress through the shot.

masking is rotoscoping technically. depends how much objects are moving. if your footage is moving - you are then getting into the realm on 2d tracking :)

hope this helps

Actually the previous post suggests that masking would be easier.
Mask it..feather if you have to. I do it all the time.

P.S-don't use this effect anymore..it's played out.

If the movement is quick enough, one can simply slide-effect-transition the object out over the text at the edge of the soap, towel, etc. Movement is quick enough and people want to believe what they see enough that it might just work fine.
