Here's Sofia Coppola's new feature:

There is a sweet frame of Kirsten Dunst with a fan -- spacebar = pause ;)
I wouldn't normally be into a period film like this one, but I think the way Sofia made a modern music video out of the trailer is cool.
Does anyone know what song that is? Cure?

I'm totally into Sofia's work but Kirsten Dunst is miscast I think in this.

The fan shot - yes! At first I thought the music was odd in the context of the trailer, but then it kind became part of the texture of the piece.
I eagerly await Sofia's next project.

i also think kirsten is out of place. some of the other actors seemed so aswell... weir4d trailer
A period movie with an 80's john hughes twist may be kinda fun.
But to tell the truth, I don't think ms. Coppala is a very good director. If it wasn't for daddy's name and support I imagine she would be in movie jail by now.
2 cents.

What is it that you don't like about her direction? I can see how she's had a lot of opportunities, but when I look at her work, I'm amazed by some of her ideas -- she does things that would never occur to me, like this trailer and her music video for the White Stripes.
Personally, I loved Virgin Suicides, and Lost in Translation was critically acclaimed so the only thing that might put her in movie jail was her perfomance in GFIII.

...However, she wasn't too bad in her role in the original Godfather...a bit over the top perhaps.

I feels she gives a really shollow exploration of all her themes and ideas. I love her choice of material. Sh'e got a great feel for what is cool but I am always left with a feeling that she doesn't fully understand what story she's telling and so we get only a suface (although glossy) exploration of it.
Lost in translation felt so un-realized to me that I think it was a shame she made it. It could have been a great film. Instead it is a forgettable one.
Virgin suicides dealbt with something movies never really do. And for that I think it's great but it felt like a student film with a huge budget.
Honestly, besides her choice of score and sound track wich are admittedly always good. And The all round camera work...thanks to connections to good crew...what do you like about her work?

Yea, it's tough to shut up a crying baby...no matter how old they are.

I wouldn't blame Sofia for that, what I had hard with part 3 was the story more or less. I think it should have been a lot more work on the story, there where too many holes, but a good movie anyway.

I liked Virgin Suicides....HATED, HATED, HATED Lost in Translation...wasn't so much a movie as it was a travelogue for Japan. Good set up, but argh...
I am curious to see what she does next. I have slightly higher hopes for this, though I agree with I think John who said Dunst looks miscast. She hasn't been impressing me lately...unless you count the rainy alley scene in Spider-Man...

GF3 isn't a horrible movie, but it pales in comparison with its siblings. Sofia's performance was very weak. She proved she's not a professional actress in a movie surrounded by veteran pros. Acting wise, she was the weakest link.
I think she's a very talented filmmaker, though I wouldn't say great. She's shown some real promise and has demonstrated real growth project to project (even though I hated Lost, it showed maturity as a director). I wish we could fast forward a few films to see what she's doing.

ok i saw a trailer for this film before All the King's Men... this looks HORRIBLE... what nationality is Marie Antoinette? NOT AMERICAN! Dunst doesn't even try to any accent what so ever.... how fucking stupid is that? A French queen that sounds American... what was Copolla thinking hiring Dunst and what was Dunst thinking taking the role and not doing an accent. on top of that the movie looks horrible anyway... i think this is going to be the younger Copolla's "Jack"...

Marie Antoinette was not of french. She is from a pre Austro-Hungarian empire royal family. Being half Hungarian, I am glad she didn't try and copy the accent, because the language doesn't sound pretty and is pretty hard to learn.

ok sorry i didnt know. my point was she wasn't american. i'd rather Copolla cast someone who either had the accent or could do it well, just blatantly not using an accent is wrong.

I think that the point of the movie, it seems like it is a modern film, set in that era, not a historical epic, i could be completely wrong, but i could have sworn it looked and sounded that way.
No need to say sorry, just pointing out she wasn't even French.
I am going to watch the trailer again to see if it feels like this or not.
