I didn't get to see "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" in the theatre. I saw it last night, DVD style. I was really blown away with Jennifer Carpenters performance. She was great.

The lighting was cool. The structure and timing was cool. The direction was cool. The message was cool.

It didn't get much attention at the box office due to it's lack of being a fullfledged exorcism horror flick and more of a court drama. It was good combination of the two. 30+ horror or something like that. 10 minutes into the film, I was fully hooked and I stayed that way until the end.

There were a couple of predictable moments, but they didn't ruin anything and they needed to be there.

If you haven't yet, give this movie a chance. I think you will like it. There is something about all of the pieces involved with this movie that make it very worth the time spent.

I haven't seen any other stuff by Scott Derrickson, but that will change.

Jennifer Carpenter needs an Oscar for this performance.

It was an ok movie. It's based on a true story, which if you know the true story you realize this movie nearly 100% fiction.

I hated the tacked on feel good ending with the grave info (also not true by the way)...

It was an interesting way to tell the story, ie: through the courtroom drama... but the story itself didn't hook me in. Some good moments but not nearly enough creepy moments (this IS a horror film, right?).

I appreciated that its exorcism sequences weren't laughable or so over the top.

A good effort, definitely worth seeing. I don't know about an Oscar for Jennifer though....

Yeah, she was pretty good. She didn't make the movie for me though. Two months after seeing the movie on DVD, her performance is a distant memory for me.

I loved the look of this move. The Light and cam movements were very nice.

The movie as a whole was okay-ish in my opinion.

Yeah I would definitely agree on that. The movie had a nice looking quality to it. I really liked the lighting and cinematography, but storywise...eh....

Saw this in the cinema. I was impressed by the way things were done with the lighting and stuff. Even though it had me pretty freaked out (I usually don't watch horror films in the cinema), it could have contained a few more scary moments.

But I liked it.

I just saw this Thursday night. I really liked it and will be adding it to my collection. I don't consider this a horror movie so it didn't have to stand up in that fashion for me. :)
Laura Linney :love4: I remember first seeing her in Primal Fear.

It didn't matter a lick to me that this was based on a true story. I enjoyed the story and the way it was told through the courtroom drama.

BLAINE...ha! I rented this movie BECAUSE of her. I love Laura Linney and the first time I saw her was Primal Fear. Same love my man, I have the same love....

By the way, I am watching the movie right as we speak....its towards the end in the barn. Personally, I think its pretty damned good....

I totally agree. I could see her face for weeks after I saw it. The part where her boyfriend wakes up and sees her frozen like a pretzel on the floor stairing at him. I can still see that. The barn scene was especialy creepy.
