I gotta go with "The Chase" when they're barreling down the freeway and the morgue truck in front of them pops open and starts spewing corpses all over the freeway and they have to swerve to dodge 'em...

Oh, plus when Kristy Swanson barfs out the car window and it sprays all over the cops' windshield, and the cop guy says "That... is a lot of puke."

 :cheesy: :engel017:

My favorite fight scene of all time is the scene in "Serenity" in which River freaks out in the bar and busts the place up. But then I admit to being a total "Firefly" fanboy anyway, not that my sig gives that fact away.

i really like the suicide scene in The Royal Tenenbaums... elliott smith's music is extremely good and needless to say it was really good for that scene. i think that's what made that scene stick to my head.

I like the final scene in "The Wind and the Lion" where the Raisuli (Sean Connery) and Sherif of Wazan are on horseback in the setting sun.

Sherif of Wazan: "Great Raisuli, we have lost everything. All is drifting on the wind as you said. We have lost everything. "

Raisuli: "Sherif, is there not one thing in your life that is worth losing everything for?"

Great Stuff!!

if i had to narrow it down, most recently, there's two scenes in Eternal Sunshine that constantly blow my mind as to how deep they are...

the scene where it starts to rain in joel's apartment and he hides under a table, and theres flashbacks of childhood...

and then the scene where he's being bullied to hit the bird with a hammer...

that whole movie blows out my brains, but those two scenes in general continue to give me goosebumps...

The scene in "Remains of the Day" where Anthony Hopkins is reading a book and Emma Thompson comes in and asks him what he's reading. One of the best-acted scenes ever, and the lighting and subtle camera work just add to the underlying tension.

i cant narrow mine down just yet...

but, i was in best buy today and they had jurrasic park playing on a big HD plasma, and it was the scene in the rain when power is out and we see the t-rex for the first time attacking the cars...

it had a crowd, that kept growing, it was pretty cool to see people just stop and watch. they couldnt help it.

The scene at the near-end of "Gattaca" where Ethan Hawke's character challenges his older brother to see for the last time who can swim farther out to sea...and then ends up hauling him back to shore. Awesome, awesome climax.

Also...the scene in "The Mission" where the Indians, led by Jeremy Irons' priest character, are gunned down by the Spanish.

And skinnyboy...that scene is one of my favorites too. Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson are freaking awesome. :)

I love the scene where they hook Charlie Chaplin up to the feeding machine in "Modern Times".

I also like the scene where "Ratso" is making dinner for "Joe Buck" in Ratso's abandoned building home. Midnight Cowboy.

Any scene where the "Italian Stallion" is in his apartment, whether it be with "Adrian" or "Micky" or especially by himself. Rocky 1

"Big Daddy" talking some sense into his son "Brick" in the rain storm. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

I've got a ton of scenes I really like and most of them evoke some type of emotion in me.

Simply The Best Scene Ever...

http://www.stickypod.com/stickypod_upload/uploads/casa1.jpg
Rick: Last night, we said a great many things. You said I was to do the thinking for both of us. Well, I've done a lot of it since then and it all adds up to one thing. You're getting on that plane with Victor where you belong.
Ilsa: But Richard, no, I've...
Rick: Now, you've got to listen to me. Do you have any idea what you've have to look forward to if you stayed here? Nine chances out of ten we'd both wind up in a concentration camp. Isn't that true, Louis?
Renault: I'm afraid Major Strauss would insist.
Ilsa: You're saying this only to make me go.
Rick: I'm saying it because it's true. Inside of us, we both know you belong with Victor. You're part of his work, the thing that keeps him going.
http://www.stickypod.com/stickypod_upload/uploads/casa2.jpg
Rick: If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it.
Ilsa: No.
Rick: Maybe not today, and maybe not tomorrow, but soon, and for the rest of your life.
Ilsa: What about us?
Rick: We'll always have Paris. We didn't have - we'd - we'd lost it until you came to Casablanca. We got it back last night.
Ilsa: When I said I would never leave you...
Rick: And you never will. I've got a job to do too. Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of. Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that.

one of my favourites has to be the Donnie Darko introduction of the main characters in the school hall. the camera is panning and spinning while all the characters are going about their morning before class. it's beautifully shot and better appreciated watching it the second time around after you have seen the movie to the end.

Dang, how do you pick just one?

Almost any scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but the opening is great for how it immediately establishes those two characters as individuals and their relationship to each other. Also, the scene where Etta Place comes home from the schoolhouse to find Sundance in her living room...

In Psycho, the scene where the state trooper wakes Janet Leigh up in her car. Basically, any scene in that movie, but that shot of the cop in his sunglasses as she sees him through the window -- classic.

In a more recent film... the final scene in Lost in Translation. Everytime I see it, I change my mind about what Bill Murray says to Scarlett Johanssen -- it seems you project you own ending on it depending on your state of mind when you see it, and that's just genius.

Something truly magical about certain scenes. A magical scene is not neccsarrily a thrill for me, but a scene that just brings me into the world. These scenes come to mind. In no particular order ...

Aliens

She picks up Vasquez' scanner and aims it the same
direction as Hudson's.

HUDSON
Twelve meters. Man, this is a big
poo pooing signal. Ten meters.

RIPLEY
They're right on us. Vasquez,
how you doing?

Vasquez is heedlessly showering herself with molten metal
as she welds the door shut. Working like a demon.

HUDSON
Nine meters. Eight.

RIPLEY
Can't be. That's inside the room!

HUDSON
It's readin' right. Look!

Ripley fiddles with her tracker, adjusting the tuning.

HICKS
Well you're not reading it right!

HUDSON
Six meters. Five. What the fu --

He looks at Ripley. It dawns on both of them at the same
time. She feels a cold premonitory dread as she angles
her tracker upward to the ceiling, almost overhead. The
tone gets louder.

Hicks climbs onto a file cabinet and raises a panel of
acoustic drop-ceiling. He shines his light inside.

HICKS' P.O.V. 151

A soul-wrenching nightmare image. Moving in the beam of
light are aliens. Lots of aliens. They are crawling
like bats, upside down, clinging to the pipes and beams
of the structural ceiling, not touching the flimsy
acoustic panels. They glisten hideously as they claw
their way forward in silence. They cover the ceiling
of the operations room. The inner sanctum is utterly
violated.

FLEET

Cor... look at that, would ya.

LEE

They're a bloody sight warmer than we are.

FLEET

Well if that's what it takes for us two to get warm, I'd rather not, if
it's all the same.

They both have a good laugh at that one. It is Fleet whose expression falls
first. Glancing forward again, he does a double take. The color drains out
of his face.

FLEET'S POV: a massive iceberg right in their path, 500 yards out.

FLEET

Bugger me!!

Fleet reaches past Lee and rings the lookout bell three times, then grabs
the telephone, calling the bridge. He waits precious seconds for it to be
picket up, never taking his eyes off the black mass ahead.

FLEET

Pick up, ya bastard.

CUT TO:

131 INT. / EXT. BRIDGE

Inside the enclosed wheelhous, SIXTH OFFICER MOODY walks unhurriedly to the
telephone, picking it up.

Schindler's List

Again the rabbi works feverishly -- cutting, crimping,
sanding, hearing the seconds ticking in his head -- and
finishing in thirty-five. Goeth nods, impressed.

GOETH
That's very good. What I don't
understand, though, is -- you've
been working since what, about six
this morning? Yet such a small pile
of hinges?

He understands perfectly. So does Levartov; he has just
crafted his own death in exactly 75 seconds. Goeth stands
him against the workshop wall and adjusts his shoulders. He
pulls out his pistol, puts it to the rabbi's head and pulls
the trigger... click.

GOETH
(mumble)
Christ --

Annoyed, Goeth extracts the bullet-magazine, slaps it back
in and puts the barrel back to the man's head. He pulls the
trigger again... and again there's a click.

GOETH
God damn it --

He slams the weapon across Levartov's face and the rabbi
slumps dazed to the floor. Looking up into Goeth's face, he
knows it's not over. As Goeth walks away --

The Thing

THE MEN

weapons in hand, huddle at the main doorway. They unbolt it.
Sleet and hail send Nauls rolling in from the outside. The
men force the door back and lock it.

The weary Nauls kneels on the floor and gasps for air.

The others surround him.

PALMER
Where's MacReady?

Nauls weighs each of them ominously, while digging down
underneath his heavy jacket.

NAULS
Cut him loose of the line up by his
shack.

CHILDS
Cut him loose?

NAULS
When we were up poking around his
place... I found this...

He pulls out a thick bundle of heavy clothing. It is mutilated
and partially burned. He holds out the jacket to show the
inside collar.

Close on name tag -- it reads: R.J. MACREADY The men, as
they examine in a hush.

NAULS
...It was stashed in his old coal
furnace... wind must have dislodged
it... I don't think he saw me find
it.

The men continue to examine in various states of disbelief.

NAULS
...Made sure I got ahead of him on
the towline on the way back... cut
him loose.

SANCHEZ
(incredulous)
MacReady...?

NAULS
He's one of them.

SANCHEZ
(scared)
When do you think it got to him?

PALMER
Could have been anytime. Anywhere.

CHILDS
(to Nauls, suspicious)
If it did get to him.

NAULS
Look, man...

PALMER
When the lights went out...

NORRIS
Would have been a perfect time...

PALMER
Right. Garry was missing...
(pointedly)
...And Sanchez...

SANCHEZ
(goes for him)
poo poo you, Palmer.

Childs and Norris separate them.

NORRIS
This is just what it wants... to pit
us against each other.

A pounding at the door sends the men jerking backward.

Nauls scampers to his feet. They tense.

PALMER
Let's open it.

CHILDS
Hell no.

More pounding.

SANCHEZ
(shaking)
You think he's changed into one of
those Things?

NORRIS
He hasn't had enough time.

CHILDS
...Nothing human could have made it
back here in this weather without a
guideline...

PALMER
Let's open it. Now...

CHILDS
(edgy, hostile)
Why you so damn anxious to let him
in here...

PALMER
(slightly trembling)
He's so close. Maybe our best chance
to blow him away.

CHILDS
No. Just let him freeze out there.

SANCHEZ
(voice cracking)
What if we're wrong about him?

CHILDS
Then we're wrong.

The scene in Ladri Di Biciclette where a desperate Antonio tries to steal a bike and gets caught...what follows is pure cinematic gold and tugs at your heart from five different directions.

The scene in Umberto D. where he tries to get rid of the dog, the only real friend he has...

The scene at the opera house in Johnny Stecchino where he is confronted by the town folk over what he thinks is a misunderstanding over a stolen banana...and when he tells off the old guy who calls him "Assassino!"

Diana Christensen and Max Schumacher in his office. The scene that ends with:

MAX: Do you have any favorite restaurant?
DIANA: I eat anything.
MAX: Son of a bitch, I get the feeling I'm being made.
DIANA: You sure are.
MAX: I better warn you I don't do anything on the first date.
DIANA: We'll see.

The basketball scene in 3 Ninjas. It always adds credibility to a movie when a 10 year old dunks from the free throw line--and when it says "Jon Turteltaub" under the title.

But seriously, the closing scene in The Wicker Man. That's pretty messed up. It always stuck with me.

Also, the end of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels when everything starts coming together and none of the characters know what's happening. (that may be more of a sequence than a scene)

But here's a few that quickly come to mind:

1. CINEMA PARADISO - The closing scene where Toto takes the reel that Alfredo left for him and puts it up on the projector and all those cut out scenes play... I cry everytime I watch it. Magic!

2. RAGING BULL - The fight scenes, particularly the one fight where Sugar Ray Robinson beats LaMotta to a pulp that includes that shot where LaMotta is splayed open against the rope like Christ, hot wind whistling.. wow! Also the fight where LaMotta kicks ass and he just knocked the kid on his ass and he circles around the ring, like stalking his prey, and Scorsese slowly overcranks the camera to go slo-mo and then quickly cranks it back to normal as he walks toward the camera as the other boxer, ready to do more damage. Brilliant! I LOVE THIS FILM!!!!

3. BLUE VELVET - The whole Ben's place scene, especially when Dean Stockwell as Ben lip-syncs Orbison's "In Dreams" for Frank (Dennis Hopper).

Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here - close! You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you c*cksucker? You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit? Shelley Levene: The leads are weak.
Blake: "The leads are weak." The f*cking leads are weak? You're weak. I've been in this business fifteen years...
Dave Moss: What's your name?
Blake: F*ck you. That's my name.

This hasn't been my experience with the film. Although it wasn't critically or financially succesful, film junkies (particulary filmmakers) that I have talked to always seem to really enjoy it.

I watched this for the first time in years recently and was surprised at how sophisticated it is. It seemed to have much more thought and care than The Outsiders ever did and visually, it is some of Coppola's best work; just short of the GF's and AN.

It reminded me how cool Mickey Rourke was and could have been. Visually, it is a rare masterpiece.

Middle America not being familiar with it doesn't say much in these circles.

A great couple scenes from the movie Gone With the Wind:

1. The married Rhett and Scarlett have an argument which culminates in Scarlett being carried up stairs presumably for forced sex with her husband.

There's a ton I love but here's a few that come to mind, I don't think were mentioned yet...

-the start of the bandit attack in Seven Samurai, just after Mifune's character (I would have spelt it wrong...sorry) finished putting the Samurai's banner on top of the house in honour of the woodcutter's death. ...well, basically the whole funeral "stop crying!" sequence leading to the attack then the panic of the people on the hill.

-in Amadeus: where Mozart rearranges Salieri's "march of welcome" ..."that doesn't really work, does it?" etc...
Also the requiem scene with Mozart in bed.

-City of God: Bene is shot at his going away party.

-I know it's new, but from There Will be Blood: I'd say the (soon to be classic) ending+ "milkshake" line etc...
But my fav from it (I saw it 3 times so far) is when Plainview tells off his now-grown-up son. bastard from a basket!

-one more I love is when William Munny returns to the bar for revenge at the end of Unforgiven.

As much as I hate this series because it's obvious they ran out of money for the budget and was just horribly shot/directed/acted, the fight at the end of the mini-series "DUNE" is by far one of my favorite scenes.

That and also the end of "Brigham City" is just powerful after you've experienced everything that just went on in that film in how the town was just decimated and totally lost it's innocence. I'm leaning towards most of the movies in which Daniel Day-Lewis stars in (I'm a huge fan of course).

Some notable ones are:
- Any of the fight / running scenes from the Last of the Mohicans.
- Milkshake speech scene from There Will be Blood.
- Scenes between Bill "the Butcher" Cutting and Leonardo DiCaprio's character.

Trying to narrow down certain scenes for me is actually impossible. Everything Day-Lewis does is gold really, so I'm going to say any scene he's in gets my vote.

If I had to choose one scene though (besides the ones mentioned above), it has to be the final scene in which Kevin Costner and his Dad end up playing catch in Field of Dreams. I can't watch that scene without getting teary-eyed, even in public.

Isaac Hayes is stuffing pistols into every available place on his body, and tops it all off with an M-60 and ammo belt ala Rambo. As they are walking out of the Warehouse, he slips on a shell casing, his feet fly up and he comes down hard, causing every weapon on his body to go off... for several moments! Man I laughed so hard, I couldn't breathe or see!
One of the best comedies out there. Chris Rock's rib scene is one of the funniest scenes ever. It's also the best thing Chris Rock has ever done.

The scene in Waking the Dead where Billy Cudrup's character has a nervous breakdown at the restaurant. The whole monologue is superb.

I love the courtroom scene in Boondock Saints. When the three are announcing their arrival to the citizens while the gangster is on his knees three guns at his head...ARGGHHH!!! LOVE IT!!

Some great scenes already mentioned. Here's my 2p worth:

Jogging scene in 2001. Round and round.
The Baseball Fury's kitting up on the way out scene in The Warriors.
The Pale Man scene in Pan's Labyrinth, where he is awoken by the blood and puts the eyes in his palms.
Many a scene in The Prestige.
The end battle in Transformers.

I could go on but I won't.

Nice! I didn't realize there was a widescreen DVD of this. I've been boycotting the pan & scan for years.
