If you know who Scott Billups is ( PIXELMONGER.COM ) , and there is no reason why some of you shouldn't, then you will find this very interesting about what he said on the Cinematography board list about the Canon XLH1 he is testing. Scott is one smart individual and knows his $%^#.....

I don't believe most here could disagree with Scott and his experience....

Quote #1 from Scott Billups Tuesday,*January*31,*2006:

<< Having shot with the Canon H1 with a P+S/Cooke 50mm, side-by-side with an H1 with the Canon HD lens, I'll agree that the HD lens is sharper when projected both on film and digitally. That's basically because all good HD lenses are generally sharper than good film lenses. The thing that cine
lens brings to the H1 is a rich DoF.>>>

Quote #2 from Scott Billups Tuesday,*January*31,*2006:

<<<To date, my preferred methodology for the Canon XL H1 is with the
supplied HD lens, and recording direct-to-disk via SDI using the CineForm
codec.

It seems to key much better than HDCAM from an F900 (also shot side-by-side)

Don't know yet if its something that I'd bet a movie on, but its so much
better
than anything else out there for under $50,000.

How much is the Billups' fee?...

I'm just kidding... :) but that's because these sort of those persuasive papers that someone can re-define as propaganda.

EDIT -- And I'm not exactly what someone can define as Pana fanboy , as you probably know...

EDIT II -- Ah!...and besides the interlaced look, I like XL-H1 footage and its performance as the most sharper 1/3" cam, as well, your useful posts Pappas.

Besides all what I have been saying, you are a must here@www, Michael. Your way of posting as rebel with cause, it makes you as one of the most valuable members. :)

I was just reading the same thread@dvinfo and the way as you struggle the most straight conventions and the Mr. President there. Well, this time, my vote is yours. Again but as you well know, not as usual.

I must correct and EDIT (again) -- not as always.

I guess I have a bit of a tough time buying that a Canon HD lens has greater resolving power than a Cooke - or is he only talking about through the P&S adapter? Or does he just think that Canon's 20x is that darn good?

I like him John. Despite, our divergences, he's a nice guy!...and very worldwide useful. Without him, the web wouldn't be the same. And if you've been following my posts, you know what I'm thinking about a lot of things. But regarding his value as dvxuser.com or dvinfo.net member, I just can say that he is more rebel than with a cause...and I like it! It helps all of us@this community! Besides Pappas is Michael, he reminds me other unique member as a sort of the american SJUSER, if it will be possible such kind of always unfair personality comparisions.

BTW, Sanjin where are you? Your thoughts are welcome@ours.

I actually love the XLH stock lens... I use the 16X manual lens as well. People who slam the lens are just ignorant and have not learned to use it. You can set focus and zoom moves with an in/out point and the speed of the move and the lens will DO THE MOVE FOR YOU... this allows you to do complex moves without a camera assistant.

I can't get the focus preset to work at any speed other than fast. Ash, is there an execution function that I'm not using?

There is no real SLOW move... it is more like medium, fast and lightening... What do you have it set on?

I tried slow and it pulled focus in less than a second.
